I'd totally buy the full version if you could make a Val'kyr character.

You'd be banned really quickly and nothing interesting would happen. Actually, it's not unlikely that you'd be banned before making it to 10 posts.

Sadly you can't play as a Val'kyr.
The money thing is true though, especially at early levels and definitely if you have 2 gathering professions (mining/skinning/herbalism) gold will be rolling in faster than you can spend it up to level 70 where you can buy epic flying for 4-5000 gold and then at 80 another (small) boost to flying for an additional 4-5k gold.

Then again, I made about 7k gold just leveling from 80-85.

Not surprising if i got banned in 30 seconds? How long do you think it takes to make 10 posts?

Bah, 1 day wait before i can post. That sucks.

What I really like is that I haven't had to farm money at all. I've been getting plenty from just the sh*t I have to kill for quests and on the way to the next area that I have been able to buy whatever I need, be it bags or gear or spells. NPC gear actually seems somewhat useful. I haven't used the AH yet, because the search wasn't working for some reason when I tried.
Yeah, that's the main thing stopping me from fooling around on FFXI a bit.

I love how easy it is to make gil in FFXIV.

I haven't touched Professions at all, but I shoudl do Skinning at the least, since half teh **** I kill is skinnable. I am considering rolling a Paladin, too, to see if it's more to my taste.

Also, there is no bundle of old expansions to buy for a reasonable price. Were I to want to have full access, I'd have to pay $40 for the base game + BC, and then $40 each for the other 2 expansions. That's one thing SE gets right, at least.

I'm pretty sure you can buy the battle chest (vanilla+BC) as well as WotLK for about $20 each from most stores and Cata for $35.

Cheapest I've seen is Battle Chest for ~$27 from Amazon, WLK for ~$35, Cata for $40. You would think that with Cataclysm out, they would have made a new Battle Chest containing WLK too.

In any case, you can buy FFXI fully updated (sans Abyssea) for $20 regular price. It's on sale for like $5 or $7 through Steam right now. I imagine that if and when they release a new expansion or add-on set, the next collection will contain the Abyssea add-ons under that price.

Blizz is a bit slow with the battle chest, and I can't say for ordering online but the game and expansions are pretty cheap in stores from what I've seen.

€20 is around 27USD, which I already said Battle Chest was. WLK and Cata are €30 each, or 40USD. $67 to get the base game plus the older expansions is expensive. FFXI is like $20 (€15) when not on sale to get everything up to (but not including) the latest expansion (in this case, the 3 Abyssea add-ons, which total $30 to buy, or roughly €23). Of course, to be fair, I think SE just uses the same numbers regardless of denomination, so you end up paying more across the pond, since it would be €20 for the collection and €10/ea. for the add-ons. That is still far cheaper than WoW is to get all the content that has been released.

There's a good reason.

With the game this popular and a bunch of folks running around with gift cards to spend, there's no reason to lower the price right now. They will soon enough, though. Maybe around summer.

Also, apparently trial accounts money caps at 10G. I wish I had noticed that earlier.

Well yeah. People are willing to spend that amount of money, there's no reason to lower the cost. I still think it's too expensive, but that doesn't mean that many people are OK with spending so much.

Also, you apparently cap at 11% EXP into level 20. Maybe I'll start another character for the rest of the trial.

Generally soft- and hardware prices here are the exact same numbers as they are in dollars for you, for hardware it's often even more.
And yeah, a lot of people pay that much for the game and few would for FFXI so the prices make sense, even if it's expensive.

That said, you don't need more than the battle chest until you get to level 68, want to play a death knight (in which case you'd need it WotLK at 55) or roll a worgen or goblin.

I don't suppose you play with the OOTers on Crushridge?

I might pick up the Battle Chest. I didn't think I'd make it past the trial, but I do like that I can log in and play for a half hour and feel like I did stuff. The quests are varied enough that I don't really mind them, and you can often complete multiple quests in the same vicinity. I haven't really had to grind mobs. I usually only do that if I am really close to the next level.

I'm just wondering if I really want to be paying two subscriptions a month (FFXI + WoW). Leaving FFXI isn't an option; I still have a ton of fun on it and love the people in my LS.

Nope, I play on Kazzak EU, and if you need to grind mobs in WoW you did something wrong. Just killing most things on your way to quests and doing an occasional instance already gets you ahead of the quests in level fairly quickly.

I haven't done any instances. I saw someone shouting for a level 15, but I was only 11 at the time. I hadn't seen anything since.

I decided to roll a Priest since I can't level my Mage anymore, and I kind of refuse to buy teh actual game until I use up all my free days.
