I'm an Undead Mage. I don't really like the controls. I doubt I'll continue past the 10-day trial.

Oh, and I didn't bother to look up race/class combinations, so I don't even know if it's a decent one. I don't think I really care.

It doesn't matter much, there are some differences but up to the point where you get into hardcore top end raiding/PvP it's not going to matter.

Also, you can change any and all keybindings and controls to whatever you prefer. :3
(Protip: turn with your mouse, always. Use keybinds for abilities.)

Also, with the release of a new expansion everyone and their grandma are playing around on their main characters.

See, I'm just so used to FFXI where I could use the Number Pad to control my character, and my thumb on the arrow keys to control the camera. I would prefer to not have to use the mouse at all.

I only picked Undead because I thought I remembered someone saying that the OOTers were Horde, and I figured that maybe if I liked it, it would be nice to be the same faction or w.e. you call it. I just have the free trial, and the four race choices are all just about equally as hideous. I really was underwhelmed by the character creation.

Unless you managed to pick Worgen or Goblin, you really won't at the early levels right now. Since we're in the early stages of an expansion, everyone's either rolling up one of the new races or leveling their high level characters.

Any thought as to what spec you're going once you hit level 10? If not, there's a handy guide for you to read about leveling a mage. I hear the author is an amazing person and also just had a birthday yesterday(as of about an hour ago).

A late happy birthday to you Poldy.

And yeah, WoW characters are a lot more cartoony than FF characters, personally I really prefer that over trying to look realistic, but to each his own I guess.

As for using the mouse, give it a bit of time and you'll get used to it. WoW is much more fast paced than FFXI for as far as I know and you want the extra maneuverability that mouseturning gives you.

I think I would just prefer to not put any actual effort into reading about anything in WoW.

It's not anything I'm going to bother paying for anyhow. It was just a free diversion.

Luckily in WoW all dying means is a run back to your corpse and a small repair bill.

If you used the mouse to move, you could have kited him and it wouldn't have happened.

Also, was it this guy? He's the death of many a lowbie.

With how easy it is to make gold in WoW you really won't notice repairbills much until you get good gear and are raiding new content so I'll take my littl hit in gold over having to grind out XP.

Yeah, it was that guy. I had my revenge, though.

I'm still not used to using the mouse. I haven't played around with bindings or anything yet, but can you make it so you don't have to hold the right button to turn while moving? If you can make it just turn the camera when you move the mouse horizontally, I could probably get used to it.

You're so silly. I usually get liek 100k exp per day, without trying at all (and by without trying, i mean i do nothing at all with the intent of getting exp). Dying costs 1200 exp with raise. The only cost involved in dying in xi is 5 minutes of being weakened.
