So my computer died. It won't start up at all. The only thing that works are the lights/fans. And the fans only sort of work, They just start, then stop/slow down, then start, then stop/slow down, etc. That makes me think it might be the power supply, but that's odd, since i haven't had any problems with it, and it was working just fine before i left for school this morning. I really hope that's it, and i don't have to replace the motherboard. Not sure i could even afford to atm Smiley: frown

Posting on teh ps3 is awesome... Smiley: facepalm

It was working well enough for me to spend 7 hours in abyssea getting one extra int, so yeah.

borrowed an laptop at least for now, but it's retardedly slow. Just took me 10 minutes to install firefox, and it only finished because i closed explorer, which is a bit silly.

Should probably have an exterminator come in and test for gremlins.

Was it a good computer? Like.. what is the lowest you can get by with for a power supply? I might have some old ones around here.

Using a 500 watt power supply. Not sure i could go much lower, but maybe if i took out the second video card. I don't really need 2 for ffxi anyway. If i had to guess, i'd say 400 watts would be the absolute lowest, but i'm not positive.

I've got a 420W max power supply. I think I could priority mail it pretty cheap, in one of those standard rate boxes.

Also, **** Minhocao. I died at 8% on my WAR. ; ;

Was popping temp items, and I went too fast. Used an Ether instead of my Fanatic's because it jumped up on me.

Should have just made macros. ; ;

I've had it since 2002, and only recently stopped using that PC, and never had an issue, but apparently it's a ****** PSU, according to what I just Googled.

Turbolink CWT-420ATX is the make/model if you want to look it up.

Of course, if you had a Voltmeter, you could test the PSU you have.

That sounds kind of terrible. Newegg has this, which is much more than i need, but i figure for only $60, i may as well get it, so i don't need to buy another when i get the money to build a new pc, which i hope to do somewhat soonish.

Assuming of course that the psu is actually the problem, which my dad's gonna check in a bit. It probably is though, but if not, i guess it'd have to be my motherboard, which would be a real ******* pain. Though it'd actually be cheaper i think.

I don't even know where to start for building a PC anymore. Well, I do, but it has been forever since I even bothered to keep up on new products and technology. I guess once I was unable to afford to even think about it, I just stopped paying attention. I guess it just seems like there's a laborious amount of researching to do, and I have to decide whether I even want to bother.

Plus, i kind of want a laptop first, anyway.

Though I do love to put PCs together.

Frowny face.

Was it dusty in the case? Did you try dismantling the system, cleaning the contacts, and reseating everything?
