I didn't say it was a good thing. I said there was some truth to the whole "You can find inner peace through meditation" junk.
Yeah, i don't buy it. Spending long periods of time doing absolutely nothing, and not thinking of anything can't accomplish anything. If you want to do something, you need to DO something (or at least THINK about it). Doing absolutely nothing at all can't change anything.
'cept maybe calm you teh @#%^ down.
Ok, fine if you're angry or something go ahead and meditate to calm down, but doing it regularly makes no sense.
But yeah, it IS supposed to do something. It's supposed to help you reach "enlightenment", which makes absolutely no sense at all, since becoming "enlightened" about anything required thinking about more than just Om.
I don't get why so many atheists think Buddhism is any less bullsh*t/evil than other religions.
Edited, Sep 8th 2010 6:28am by ThePsychoticOne Because Buddhists think they're responsible for their own actions, and realise that you only get one life. Their religion is as close to humanism as a religion is going to get.
Plus if you really,
really **** off a Buddhist, the most he's going to do is set
himself on fire. Buddhists also don't believe in any concept of god or gods, just enlightenment. They don't proselytise either, ever.
They also don't try and actively teach their ******** in schools. Less ********* Certainly not. Less evil? Compared to the ones that believe in god/gods, definitely.
