Oh, and if you are scientifically minded, and really like reading that kinda ****, you should read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy.

I'd suggest Greg Egan, because he writes good hard Sci-Fi, but he kind of loses the character development in all of the science. He writes good books for sure, but he focuses a bit too much on the science for my tastes. I love having it be technically and scientifically accurate or theoretically possible and all, but I do like to read a story, too.
