In all fairness, Kaolian has to walk a fine line. I usually leave moderation to him, mostly because that's pretty much what he's here for and he's had to make these judgments way more often than I have. But also because it's pretty much impossible to do anything that's going to make everyone happy. Mute someone, half the people cheer, half of them will *****. Do nothing, tons of people *****.
And yeah, there are issues with inconsistency, at least from my perspective. It's all about who's being ******* about the most to be honest.
I probably wouldn't have muted Rog myself. Mostly because you open up this door where it's like, "well, you muted HIM for being a ****, but you let this other guy get away with it..." I personally don't have a problem with a little bit of hazing. It's happened to ALL OF US. I know it happened to me anyway, and I acted like a little girl about it too. Then I figured out that's just sorta how online communities are. That and people who use the word "toon" do really get on my @#%^ing nerves.
However, I'm also not going to speak against the decisions of my fellow admins. From ZAM's perspective, the game is old enough that getting new posters for that forum doesn't happen often, and if every new poster that comes in gets hazed, most of them aren't going to stick around. It's a business after all. But then you bring up the point of "well, you drive off a premium poster to keep a new poster that's probably not even going to stick around." Again, this is why I like to leave these decisions up to Kaolian.
And yes, I've been Kaowned too.
You're not doing it right if you haven't been swatted a time or two for stepping out of line. How else are you going to know where that line is?
