Sometime this morning. I'm sad, and a little angry, that we couldn't see him before he passed on.

We're flying up to Holman for a wedding, and we'll be there from June 9-17th.

He's had Parkinson's for at least 10 years, who knows really. I guess his body just couldn't hold out anymore.

Anyway, our trip's gonna be one of those bittersweet ones. Happy because of the wedding, sad because of my Grandpa no longer being there.

Last time I saw him was ~5 years ago, when he was taken down to Edmonton for intensive care (he got pneumonia from travelling). And the last time I've been up north to see the rest of my mom's side was 10 years ago, when we moved down south to Alberta.

It made me feel a little better just posting that.

Just sucks that it costs so much friggen money to fly up there.
It's $2200 per person, and my family just isn't that well off.

Flying from Edmonton to Yellowknife is about $240, it's the trip from Yellowknife to Holman that's ******' expensive.

It's all about supply/demand I guess. And what the airlines can get away with.

I couldn't even find a trip to Holman to check prices on one of those trip sites. I got the airport code and stuff, but they apparently could not put together a flight. Smiley: lol

It looks like I can get a package in Nov. to go see my friend for ~$500 for round trip flight and hotel for Fri-Mon (3 nights). If I can get a job soon, I should be able to put away $1000 and do it. Not that November is a particularly good time to go visit there since their winters are as bad as ours, but I won't have the money to do it in the summer or early fall, and I don't want to wait 'til next spring. Maybe I'll catch a football game while I'm there. Smiley: lol

My grandma died when I was 13, and my dad died when I was 17, but all of my family lives pretty close by, so I see them fairly often. I'm sorry you didn't get to see him.

My condolences Smiley: frown

My grandpa died a few years back, on mother's day. Most of the family got together for brunch, and after we left, he fell asleep watching a baseball game, and had a heart attack. In a way, it was nice that we all got to see him right before he died. I can't imagine how it'd be to lose someone if i hadn't seen him in that long.

Yeah, it sucks, not seeing someone for so long.

We can at least be happy that he passed away without feeling any pain. He was on a morphine drip for the past few days, and just passed away in his sleep.

Serious Usagi is serious.

Thanks guys. Just packing up some food and stuff to take up there. 'Cause things are at least twice as expensive as they are here.

Is it like ... where the rich Canadian entrepreneurs live? I don't understand.

Location.

Everything has to be flown in, or brought in by cargo ships.

Oh.

Is it like a really nice place though? The pictures are pretty, but any vacation pamphlet is going to make any place look good.

Once you get past the fact that there are no trees, it's a nice place.

Lots of rock, tundra, clear rivers and lakes. Small hills and mild weather.

I like trees.

I'll pass on your rocky frozen tundra.

It's weird, but you get used to it.

Maybe.

I'll sure miss them.
