For fun of course, and I can't help but cringe and pitifuly laugh at most of my posts from as little as 6 months ago. Man, I sure was a hardcore FFXI nerd.

While there are those who can effectively heal/melee at the same time, the proportion of Red Mages skilled/geared well enough to pull this off while solo healing pre-75 are astronomically small. Is it ok when you have backup? by all means...but then you would be better off replacing the backup for more DDs and solo healing :S
That's kinda the whole point of a Frontline Update for Red Mage.
Parties shouldn't have to groan and sigh when they see us pull out a sword.

As I said in my post near the top, I think attention needs to be drawn to lower-mid levels. Not at merit party levels.

I wasn't disputing the fact that /DNC isn't as great as /RDM.
I agree, /RDM is crazy for solos.

What I meant was that it's a very broad comment, to be saying that /DNC doesn't have a chance if it can't take on Aquarius.

And why not congratulate you on an Aquarius solo? I agree it's not the hardest thing in the world, but it's not like a PLD/RDM can solo it as soon as he hits 75.

Edit: /DNC is fairly new. Ok, maybe not.. but it's not been explored as much as /RDM has.
I think it's great that we have PLDs out there testing the limits of our soloing subjobs.

My first ever Allakazoo post:
Quote:
I have a republic targe (def:8, hp+8), and am a 28 PLD. the kite shield is in my mog house. all PLD equipment guides that I've looked at say to use kite shield. does the size of the shield make a difference, or should I stick with the targe for the hp+8?

What a noob PLD.

ROFLCOPTERS I introduce myself to the Asura forum:

Just wanted to say hi. I'm new to these forums, and just wanted to introduce myself. I've only had FFXI for about 4 months, so I guess I'm still a noob. Looking forward to partying with some of you someday soon!

I won an Earth Staff in a casino! Or did I...
Quote:
OK, I'm about to log off for the night when I see a casino in LJ:

*********** Casino! Above AH
Roll 550+ to Double Up, 990+ for Grand Prize!
10k min, 30k MAX Prize:(Earth Staff)

So I figure, 45% chance I double up or better. I go and trade 10k, and roll 994! Sweet, I just won an Earth Staff, right? No, he goes "20k win."
I asked "grand prize?" He said "no, you played for money." However, I wouldn't have played if I knew that. IMO, he scammed me. So, I put in a GM call, figured worst case I won 10k.
Still waiting on GM, just wondering you opinion on this. From his shout, it seems like you just bet and roll. 990+ should net me an Earth Staff, no? I understand casinos are not SE sanctioned/regulated, but did what he do constitute a scam? When I traded him the gil, he didn't ask me if I was playing for prize or money. What do you think?

What a scam! I didn't call a GM though.

I has a gud idear:
Quote:
OK, I posted this idea in someone else's thread, but nobody responded to it in there, so I figured I'd give it a shot in its own thread.

I only have WHM to 30, so take it for what it's worth.

I suggest a Job Trait (insert cool name here) that you get after level 37 (making it WHM exclusive). Heck, why not as early as 40?

This Trait cuts the initial healing tick time from 20 seconds to 10 seconds. Now you may say it sounds <<Too Weak>> but I think it would be nice.

WHM do tend to have to take a knee frequently, and how many times have you taken a knee and had to stand up before that first tick hits in order to cast a spell? This would essentially give you an extra tick of healing.

In addition, I suggest making it Meritable, where you could reduce the time per tick, maybe with max merits to 7 seconds per tick (including the initial tick) while healing.

I know people have mentioned how BLM has Conserve MP and SMN has Auto-Refresh and RDM has Convert. This is my answer to that for WHM.

Now, admittedly, I don't know later leve WHM mechanics, so I can't comment on how this would effect high level/endgame WHM. I don't know how often or for how long you take a knee, so maybe it would be useless. In this case, I suppose you could make it shorten the time per tick when Regen or Refresh is active on you, so you gain back MP faster.

Anyway, from my perspective, shortening the time per tick while healing (with the basic Job Trait just shortening the first tick to 10 second) sounds pretty cool to me.

Look at it this way:
Normally, 4 ticks of healing would be 50 seconds (20+10+10+10).
With just the JT, you get 5 ticks in that time.
Fully merited, you get 7 ticks in that time.

Anyway, I'm interested in what you guys think about this idea. It doesn't seem to be overpowering, and I think it would be great to have as a WHM exclusive Job Trait.

Pting near the mamool ja staging point, setup was blu, drg, nin, thf, rdm, whm. RDM was the puller, (he rocks, btw--kudo's to Kirby if you read this)mob sleeper, and he stunned, dispelled, refreshed, enfeebled...generally did an awesome job all around. XP was great and everyone was having fun.

The trouble started when the whm had to leave. Only mage lfg at the time was another RDM. So RDM 2 comes on the scene /blm, says, "Sorry, I don't have whm leveled." RDM #1, says "np, I'll warp back and change my sub to /whm, and you can pull." #2 happily agrees to this arrangement.
While #1 was away, #2 pulls a blm mamool, who's shock spikes stun all the melee'ers--BLU is stunned and unable to headbutt the coming -ga spell, #2 doesn't bother silence either, and the whole pt is in the orange. #2 is doing....not sure...but the BLU spams Magic Fruit to get the pt back up to health. Finally, the mob dies, pt says "let's wait till Kirby gets back."

So when Kirb gets back, #2 pulls a few mobs, everything's cool. He asks if he can pull a Skoffin. "Sure" everyone says. On the way back, #2 get's a good beating--Kirby politely asks him to pull those with grav. No big deal.

EXP is down a little, but meh, not bad. Except #2 keeps geting all sorts of hate and keeps begging for provoke. Apparently, he was unaware of the 30 second timer on voke, or maybe he expected the DRG to voke, idk...

Long story short, soon enough, #2 dies on a pull--not sure why exactly. He blamed it on no one voking. Okay...so maybe that was the case, it happens, pullers lead dangerous lives. He should consider, however, that since the melees were still killing the mob at camp, that voke could have been just used and unavailable.

We continue, #2 aggros an ele while pulling a skoffin. Again, he screamed for voke ~ but hey, the current mob wasn't dead yet and voke wasn't up. He ran for the zone, screaming all the while. Sadly, he died. And promptly disbanded.

lol i remember that party. i had fun pulling, was great exp. too bad the party disbanded when our other rdm hp'ed. hope i get to party with you again ^^

I just posted this in the PLD forum, but I made a thread titled "When is it OK to..."

Quote:
...criticize someone's gear?
I'm EXPing my 25MNK in Yuhtunga, and there's a 27PLD in the group. We start fighting, and he's really slow on voking off the puller. He's also slow when the mob goes after the mages. By this, I mean I had to voke the mob off the mages. So, I obviously say something, to which he goes 'I voke all the time' or some sh*t like that.
Anyway, he's still being slow, and since I haven't EXP'd anything but PLD for the past 2 months, I wince every time the puller gets hit 2-3 times before he vokes. So, I start outvoking him. He gets pissed after about a half hour of never getting hate off me (he neglected to cure anyone or use job abilities), and quits the party (we were actually chaining mobs pretty well). So, still feeling awesome from my victory, I check out his gear:

27-28PLD:
Full Chain Mail Set (not bad)
Size 1 Shield (meh)
Kaiser Sword ( O.o )
Safeguard Ring
San d'Orian Ring
Beetle Earring x2
Some belt with a couple +1 and a couple -1 stats
Not Spike Necklace, but the one with +2 STR and DEX in addition to MND -4
Rabbit Mantle ( -.- )

So, I tell him where he's going wrong. He had no VIT gear (except maybe the belt had +1, all I saw was it wasn't Warrior's Belt). No Stamina Rings, no Warrior's Belt, nothing. And, a Rabbit Mantle?!? His excuse: no gil.

2 things:
1) Why do people get so stuck on leveling as fast as possible that they don't take the time to learn their job, or gear correctly. I'm sorry, but at this low a level, gil isn't an excuse. Stamina Rings are level 14. Warrior's Belt is level 15. And I forget what I used for earrings at that level, but it didn't cost me 4 evasion, that's for sure. He was Elvaan, get some MP earrings.
2) Was I wrong in saying something about it? I mean, I was probably wrong for tanking on top of him, but seriously, gear for your job, dude. By that level, he should know his role. He was Rank 4, so he wasn't completely new. I just don't get it. Especially (to me) with PLD. It's not like its huge in BCNM's or a useful Sub Job. Why be gimp at it?

OH NO! HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY VIT GEAR IN YUHTUNGA JUNGLE! FOR SHAME!

Soloed an IT+ Greater Colibri as PLD/RDM. I noticed it was alot harder soloing these pld, than they were as rdm.

I also wanted to see how long i'd last vs. a VT+ Wivre lol (3mins including sentinel and invincible...). I did get a 0.4 Parrying skill up tho :D

192/220(i think?) Parrying

I think it's funny that I didn't start posting until I was already 75RDM, a month or so after Aht Urghan came out, yet I still went through a huge newb-to-teh-internets phase.
