Choosing a profession for my DruidFollow

Well, I currently have a Hunter with Mining and skinning mostly because this was my first character, still is, and I need/still money.
But later on I kinda want to drop mining for engineering seems like it fits very well and its kinda useful for the character and I still like mining more than skinning.

Now, Currently I've been debating between Jewelcrafting (obviously would have to pick mining as the gatherer) or Alchemy (herb as the gatherer)
I mean, I like the jewel thing thinking I might be able to help my brother (leveling partner, we always quest together and stuff, he has enchanting for the same reason) I like the figurines (too bad you cant trade these, this is mostly because I like collecting weird junk and I do this also in real life)

or making potions, mostly flasks and rare elixirs but this seems to be not worth it, they say its hard to make money with, hard to get recipes, kinda annoying but I dont know I've never been or used one.
Also I think I would especialize as an elixir alchemy, since Potions are kinda blah unless this has something special im missing, also thought of transmuting mostly because of the Motes/primals transforming and kind of multiplying them but I dont know how hard or worth this is?

Any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate your help guys, and also This druid will be my 2nd character so far, thanks.

EDIT: Oh, I think this is also of note that my druid is currently level 35 with no professions whatsoever and maybe It would be important to start raising something because later on will be harder? or time consuming if thats the case. Just pointing it out.

Alchemy and skinning is a great combo from making money as you level. Simply because they are both easy to level and the demand for herbs and leather never stops.

Am i missing something in the reply ? I guess you meant Herbalism not Alchemy as they are rather different.

Druids are good at Herbalism as you can sneak around when you do not wish to fight every mob to a herb area my Druid has herbalism and alchemy at level 30 and with some things it is rather easy to make gold . Herbs like stranglekelp near ratchet or Silverpine , with fishing as well you can make gold on my server with the Elixir of waterbreathing for example , the lower end Alchemy has a few created items that can sell well , not that sure about high level but i know the herbs can sell well.

All i can say is almost every creative trade is annoying to level to maximum level as Recipes tend to be either BoP faction rep or expensive to buy on in instances so not so easy to get.

If you're wanting cool stuff for other characters, I wouldn't bring profiting into it. This is just my opinion of course, but I start characters on a realm making money with gathering professions; mainly enchanting, and then after I've built up some cash, might level up a profession I want to get some stuff from.

Not saying you can't make money from leatherworking, alchemy, blacksmithing, or engineering, just that it's a lot easier to make with skinning, mining, herbing, or disenchanting.

I have got a couple decent rings to sell while leveling jewelcrafting, but more important to me, now all my sub-20 characters have rings and necklaces to help them along the way :)

Again, there are recipes and stuff in each trade that will sell on teh AH, it just takes some reviewing of your auction house to determine what is selling, and for how much, and you figuring out exactly what you want out of the tradeskill.

Well its not a must for them to be money-makers, I already have my hunter's mining for that and soon dailies.
I simply want one thats good overall and could make nice/helpful stuff. thats why I also thought of those 2 professions since they make stuff I could share with my brother or guild buddies if they need so.

imho - Alchemy is the most useful profession in the game. Potions/Elixirs/Flasks are pretty much the most used items in the game. I would say you go through at least 50x more of those than any other primary profession item - probably much more.

Gems - they are only replaced when you get new gear.
Enchants - same thing (other than Oils)
BS/Tailor/LW - You'll barely ever use.

If you want something really useful for you and your friends - get Alchemy.

At least, that's my recommendation.

Until I leveled Alch on an alt, I bought so many friggin pots/elixirs/flasks. Or, I had to buy mats, and have my friends make them. I felt like such an annoyance asking people to make me pots/elixirs/flasks over and over and over and over.

Mining/Jewelcrafting would be a fine choice. You'd get the trinkets, which would satisfy your love of nifty things, and when you first start levelling Jewelcrafting you'd be making tons of greens that, instead of selling on the AH at a loss, you could give to your Enchanter friend to DE for materials that he could either use to level his enchanting skills or sell on the AH for less of a loss. You'll also be able to craft jewelry that's useful while levelling and cut gems that are useful in endgame. There are two downsides, however. First, Jewelcrafting is somewhat expensive to level and the patterns for popular gem cuts are expensive to buy: this is a profession where you have to spend money to make money. However, the profits to be made can be amazing if you work at it are amazing. Second, many druids prefer the gathering professions of skinning and herbalism over mining, because mining makes you switch out of cat/bear/whatever form, but skinning and herbing don't.

Herbing/Alchemy would therefore be a good choice. But there's another possibility: You might go with Herbing and either Skinning or Mining now, then switch to Herbing/Inscription when the new profession is released. You could store up a big stock of herbs to powerlevel your inscription when the time comes, and meanwhile sell your leather/ore for some extra cash to fund the training.

Ok, if you want a CRAFTING profession that can craft stuff useful for your friends:

1- Enchanting: EVERYONE benefits enchants. All classes, no questions about it. ALL your friends will look for you. If it's not for the enchants it's because they want to disenchant their stuff (to get mats to ask you for enchants). To your advantage, if you're the enchanter of your group of friends this interaction will help your enchanting level up pretty fast, with benefits to you and your friends, and relatively cheaply. Enchants will never stop being needed. Each time they get new gear they have need for a new enchant. If your friend group doesn't have an enchanter it definitely needs one.

2- Alchemy: I have this one. It's useful to have. Downside is that most of the time for me, the AH offers the more popular potions for a lower price than herbs, so my friends just buy the pots instead. I don't have many friends that are herbalists and not alchemists, so it's not likely they'll farm alche mats for stuff they want. However it is still of benefit because sometimes one of their recipes or one of their quests require potions that aren't available in the AH, and they just ask me and I can help them complete their recipes or their quest. If you're going to be a healer this is also a very good profession because at higher levels you get a good potion for alchemists only and a trinket that gives you more mana when you drink pots.

3- JC: Similar to enchanting and to alche in a way. Everybody needs gems, most cuts give profit. In fact, the big variety of cuts is such that many people will NOT FIND THE SPECIFIC GEM THEY WANT at the AH, but they will find the uncut gems. So in a way similar to enchanting this can be very useful to your friends if you can offer to make the specific cuts they want.

4- Tailoring: I would NOT take it for a Druid because it's a waste of BoP recipes. But if you have a Cloth Wearing alt, tailoring can allow you to make bags for your friends.
