Any love for Engineers?Follow

So I have gotten my Engineer to 375, and compared to my other toon (who is a Blacksmith) it was pretty cheap to get there. I mainly leveled it because it has some cool toys to play with and of course the goggles. I have been looking through the recipes and noticed that there really isn't much to do after the level 62 goggles (unless you get the level 70 pattern from Sunwell). Granted we have the Mote Extractor, badass flying machines, and transporters (not to mention comic relief with a lot of the items), but other than a few others, nothing really special.

The majority of the stuff we make is usable only by engineers. So they aren't going to buy our products because....well....they can just make it themselves. Is engineering ever going to get any love from Blizzard? Or is it just a forgotten profession?

Not in the beta testing, but get the feeling that engineering like a lot of the crafting professions won't get much if any love from bliz in the next expansion. From experience, basically from seeing TBC come out, there isn't going to be much as far as big money making patterns for engineers since as you pointed out, it's basically a self profession.

Course I have to say that even blacksmithing and to an extent leatherworking is also kind of a self profession, yes you can do shield spikes and stones from blacksmithing and the lovely amor patches from leatherworking, but that's about it. I guess in the end most people just take crafting professions either to help out their guild/friends or just for their own benefit. I think that the next big money maker will of course be inscription; course it might kind of fizzle like jewelcrafting seems to, at least on my server. It was big when it came out and everyone tried to powerlevel their skill, but now it seems like unless you have access to some of the sunwell patterns JC'ing just isn't the money maker it was.

Personally I'll always use my enchater and herb toons as my money makers. Seems like I can always stick up any extra enchanting mats and sell them extremely easily as well as any spare herbs that my alchemist can't use

WotLK is going to have motorbike mounts for engineers. IF that's not motivation for you, I don't know what is.

Of course there will be new schematics in the expansion. We can reasonably expect a new set of best-in-slot goggles and a slew of new gizmos that let characters mimic select powers of other classes. We can hope for a update to the Zapthrottle and for even more PVP-friendly items.

I've never taken the time to learn the market--I have enough balls in the air on the AH as is--but I know there are people on my server who turn a consistent profit by selling Engineering crafted items: arrow/shell machines, potion injectors and quest requirements. Honestly, the profession has a lot going for it.

Has this been confirmed? I've seen the pics, but there's speculation it's from the trading card game as well...

There is SOME Engineering stuff that sells, but I am hoping for more in WotLK. I read that Smiths may get the skill to add a socket to a weapon, which would be cool. Maybe there would be something similar for the Engineer, a permanent sharpening of your weapon, a special polish for your armor, and of course, laser beams for your shark.

At one time, the Flying Machine Control was the cheapest way for me to get a skill point, so I made it and posted it on AH, priced slightly higher than the mats cost and less than buying a regular bird. Surprisingly, it sold on the second try.

As long as they give us stuff that has a CHANCE to sell, I will be happy. I assume that we will get another transporter station, too. But maybe not.

Now THAT would be cool.

Don't get me wrong. I love being an engineer. I have loads of fun with the gizmos and the landmines/grenades are awesome. I guess my big gripe is.....we don't really have many "epic" recipes to look forward to. If you run enough raids your BS might get a Red Belt of Battle, or your Enchanter may get Executioner (just 2 examples, there are a lot more drops for them). But engineers don't have too much to look forward to when it comes to epic recipes.

I would like to see blizz add something that would really wow the engineering community (the Motorcycle would be a farking awesome start)

The only 70 gear an engineer can make is a few trinkets, class-specific helms, and upgraded helms if you can get the recipe from SWP or buy it from someone who did.

Goblin Rocket Launcher is cool. The teleport trinkets can get you to a few useful places. Repair bots can save a lot of time in a raid. And the helms are just awesome. The first ones are a bit above T5, but the upgraded ones are T6+.

I wish I had enough money for the recipe.. or a SWP GKP group.

The engineer epic recipes are at the trainer. Engi isn't required to grind any particular rep. I can't complain.

Much of the engi fun stuff is low level stuff, the bad side is that the stats are low leve (parachute cloak only gets +9 agility as stats), the good side is that is available from low levels so you can be using that stuff trough all your levels.

The shrink ray continues being funny.
The net projector still works.
The parachute cloak still parachutes.
The world enlarger continues being funny.
The diving helm still works.
The goblin cables will continue to defibrilate people.
The list keeps going.

According to another side engy may be getting "enchants" that you patch into your gear and turn them into engi-powered gear. Lets say you like the rocket boots but you're a plate wearer and the stats on them suck, then you put an engy "chant" on whatever boots you like to turn them into rocket boots. Rocket Launchers in the gloves... I suspect they take up the enchant slot.

I'd like to see more shields and more tools but I can't complain.

MMO-Champion Post on "The Hog"

As far as we know, it won't be restricted to Engineers but that could change at anytime until the expansion's released.

Engineers are doing far better then LW as we've got nothing special or epic going for us that doesn't involve a T5 or higher level raid to have a 1% chance at the pattern dropping.

You guys have your flying machines, goggles, mote extractors and that uber rifle that every warrior wants.

Tailors have thier epic grade tailoring specialty stuff.

Smiths are capable of producing armor and weapons that are T5+.

Alchies have thier flasks and alchemist stones and while those aren't truly epic, they at least have high demand and constant use from them.

All my LW has is armor patches. >_<
