Philosophers StoneFollow

Okay, so I'm a 53 warrior with mining and skinning for my tradeskills for the $$ since it is my first toon. I'm mining the other day and come across a stone that I hadn't seen before so I look it up on alla and find out it is an ingredient for a trinket called a philosophers stone. My sister has a rogue on the same account and she is doing alchemy, so I sent it to her along with the other mats and the recipe for the philosophers stone so she could make me one. She makes it and lo and behold it is soulbound. Is there any way to make it so its BoE. We're both noobs to WoW and I wasn't sure if thats just the way it is with that trinket or if she could actually make me one and send it to me. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Nope - the stone is for alchemists only.

It's named after an ancient mythical material also called the Philosopher's Stone which was supposed to allow ancient alchemists to transform lead into gold and brew potions which would give the drinker eternal life and health.

Indeed. It's also worth noting that the first Harry Potter book's original title was "... and the Philosopher's Stone" when it was published in 1997. The publishers decided that the US market might not know what a philosopher was so the book was released with the title "... and the Sorcerer's Stone" in the US in 1998.

Leorig, since you're new here I'll try to educate you. When an item's description, such as the Philosopher's Stone says Bind when picked up, that means it's soulbound to whoever picks it up. This is either when looting from a mob or when a crafter creates it. On here we abbreviate to BoP.

There is absolutely no way to craft an item for another person if the recipe says the item is BoP.

Also, you're gonna see more "profession only" type items as you get higher skill. All the professions have quite a few, like Mad Alchemist's Potion which gives only Alchemists a random enchant, or some tailoring patterns that are BoP when MADE, which means you can't make them for friends.

I remember being all excited when I got a Jewelcrafting recipe with some "awesome" stat like +20 Attack Power, not noticing that it was BoP when made. I was very disappointed when I tried to send it to a friend and got the "You cannot mail soulbound items" message.

I appreciate the help and the history lesson. I was just excited about finding something that I hadn't seen before and didn't really take a look at the recipe before I sent it to my sister. I'm glad she got some use out of it though, LOL.

The Philosopher's Stone is mainly used for Alchemy transmutes and is almost essential for an alchemist. I never even noticed the stat boost it gives until a couple of weeks ago :P

The +5 all stats is a recent change. It used to do nothing but allow transmutes and not even be equipable.

Then the Alchemist's Stone gives +15 all stats and 40% potion effectiveness.

Then there's a few upgraded Stones that keep the 40% to potions, but different bonuses, like AP, defense, spell power, or healing.
