Will I lose my skill level if i switch professions?Follow

I'm currently at 375 Mining/375 Blacksmithing but I am thinking of dropping mining and switching to Enchanting for the ring enchants. I don't want to drop BSing because of my Lionheart Executioner and because I like crafting stuff for my guildies. My question is will my mining skill drop down to 0 if I ever choose to pick it up again? I remember reading somewhere that with the previous patch you could switch professions and not lose your skill level. Thanks if anyone can enlighten me.

if you drop mining, you will lose all of your skill points. if/when you pick it up again, you will need to level it 1-375.

Furthermore, you lose all of the knowledge of the plans you had learned. So if you had any epics, like say, Hand of Eternity, that's gone.

Any equipping requirements or bonuses requiring Blacksmithing, like the Felsteel set bonus, would also be lost.

Think it over. You might be better off making another character to be your enchanter.
Of course, you'll have to be able to dual log if you want to enchant your Smith's stuff.

Oops, I'm an idiot. You were talking about dropping mining, not BS.

Sorry...

Yes you will lose the skill level if you drop mining but if you wanted to take it up again it is not that hard at high level to get 375 back , i did it with my 70 hunter and gave up skinning and tried herbs and ran around like "a headless chicken" result was 375 in a long weekends play , same with mining that was perhaps a little slower but was less than a weeks play , i then went back to skinning as i missed farming all that leather .

Giving up a gathering trade is sure as hell not as bad as giving up a creative trade , then you could be in for a long or expensive retraining curve.

i edited it because i forgot about the other part of your question. The only way you retain skill points is if you reset the high end skills like in leatherworking from Dragonscale to Elemental or Tribal , then you only lose the skill to make Dragonscale not the skill points , that works the same for all the trades.
