Keeping the cursor over the bobberFollow

I posted this same question at El's Extreme Anglin' but the forums are much less active...

When fishing I've noticed that with floating wreckage I often have to move the cursor a little while waiting for the bite to keep it over the bobber. Is there an addon or macro that would allow you to catch the fish when you click without having the cursor over the bobber, or one that would keep the cursor over it?

For the record, I'm not trying to automate fishing or violate the TOS. I'd just like to reduce my screen staring a little. Right now I use Fishing Buddy and am thinking about adding FishPing to help out, but having something to keep the cursor in the right spot would be nice.

I like to fish, but hate having to stare at the screen, so what I do is just get my cursor to the bobber, then chat or whatever, then click when I hear the sound. I'd love it if there were some kind of addon, though, so thanks for the question. :)

No. The fishing mechanics are explicitly made so you have to click on the bobber. This prevents 99% of the botting that would occur were such a thing macro-able. For the time I put into getting max fishing, I'd be livid to see people bot their way up and start stealing my profits.

You don't really like fishing then. You just like what you get when you fish.

Part of fishing is watching the bobber.

Floating wreckage is tough as it sits up out of the water, but the take is worth it. My best advice (having leveled one toon to 375, one to 350-something and counting, and a few others to triple digits) is to put on the best lure that you can find, so that you are in the range of 75-90 points over the minimum for the zone. This allows me more time to click on the bobbing bobber, sometimes as often as three times.

Also, I've never used FishPing but I do turn up the sound when I fish and listen for the splash - even though I'm staring at the screen. Can't tell you how many times that splash woke me from a doze late at night while I'm fishing for golden darters, just in time for me to click and get the catch.

Good Luck and good fishing!

The wreckage is always a pain as it keeps moving , do not bother with a lure unless you get the 'fish got away reply' as it will not help you catch any easier.

I tend to make sure i am well over the areas level for fishing anyway , which means i can sit back and play one handed while having a break eating or drinking just listening for the plop of the lure before striking , the higher your skill above the area you are fishing in gives you extra time to strike on the lure.

A tip for any that find your catch has got away , before outland and after level 50 skill you should not need any lures , just go fish in a town as the catches are far easier and you still gain levels no matter where you fish anyway , i can agree you will not make any gold in a town , but half an hour in a town fishing should get your skill up a bit , and give you rested time so questing time is hardly lost that way.

You're absolutely right. Fishing is a good excuse to drink. :)

Actually, the way my house works is that we have a few puters, and the people I hang out w/ are net nuts, in general, so when we're together, we're usually doing low attention-span things with our net addictions, and talking to each other at the same time. We played several games during the time I was fishing, the kind you play when you look actual people in their actual eyes. :) So, yeah, and then I ended up with a bunch of good stuff.

Sometimes I fish while I'm just hanging out by myself, and I still don't want to stare at the screen. I listen to music when I'm playing, unless I'm in a situation where I need voice to talk to other players, so I'd like to be able to let my eyes roll back into my head while listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Mitchell, if I'm lucky, Young will do in a pinch). I can listen for the sound of the bobber, and click when it happens, with my eyeballs still in the back of my head. If you can't appreciate that, I don't know what to tell you. :)

What I like about fishing are these:
1. The stuff I get from it
2. That I can do it while doing other things; it's low maintenance
3. The stuff I get from it
4. An excuse to drink beer
5. That I can do it while doing other things; it's low maintenance
6. Not having to watch the bobber, cuz I listen for it :)

In no particular order. I like fishin' just fine.

etc. Seriously, does one have to be totally infatuated with fishing to be good at it or like it? Answer is nope. Give me something that I can click to focus on the bobber or something like that, and I'll be even happier about fishing.

However, I can't believe how excited I am to have discovered the relationship of fishing to tailoring. :)

Wreckage is fine for me now that I found that Book. </brag> I'd still love to be able to click and focus on my bobber (that sounded dirteh).

I leveled a hell of a lot of my fishing in TB while in queue for BG. :) The guides will help you level with fishing in order to either make gold or to aid in leveling cooking, but you can fish right on up to 375 right there in the TB pond. I'm not sure if it helps or not when a corpse is floating there, like always in TB on frostmane, though. One of them had the name "Icantswim," which cracked me up. He floated there for about a week. :)

Edit: Get Nat Pagle's pole. (snicker) Not only is it a cool pole, it's a very cool quest chain if you like fishing/travelling. Shows you a lot of spots you might not have thought of, too. :)

I've leveled one char up to 375, another to 315 (and counting), and a several to 225 (all still too low to do Nat's quest). I always fish pools when I can as the loot is great. I can generally make several hundred gold before I start fishing in the Outland.

For my alliance characters I always get the Big Iron Fishing Pole from the traps in Desolace (on PvE servers anyway). And as Trilliandent points out, getting the Weather-Beaten Journal is a big plus as pools because much easier to find with the Find Fish ability.

I have yet to do the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. I'm generally busy at that time of day. But I would love to get the Arcanite Fishing Pole some day.

Basically so that you can pay even less attention to the game while you fish :)

You sound more like you wish you could bot it, come back 1 hour later, and see what loot you have.

Really, there is so little to fishing. Blizzard makes it a minimalist effort as it is. I just think it's interesting that you are trying to make it even easier. NERF FISHING! lol. j/k

And you don't have to be infatuated with it to like it. However, you really don't even seem to like doing it. You just like the loot you get. That's all I was saying. It's not a bad thing. I don't really like scanning the AH for stuff to DE and make money, but I love the money I make. It's the same thing. All is good.
