is LW worth it?Follow

#1 Jul 18 2008 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
I've leveled my leatherworking skill to almost 200 and am not sure if it was worth it or not. I've talked to several players who have encouraged me to keep it, saying that at end game I'll be able to make lots of useful (or profitable) items. However, I've also had a fair share of people tell me that LW is useless and so far I'd have to agree with them. So far all the items I've been able to make have been inferior to other gear available at that lvl. I've had moderate success in the AH with a handful of patterns, but for the most part, the gear I make is so useless that I can't even give it away.

Let me know what you guys think.
And if theres another thread about this already, sorry.

I haven't done it ever, but last night I was wishing I could find some of these on the ah:

80 more levels for you, but I bet they'd sell like wildfire, since illusion dust is in very high demand all the time.

if you skin your own mats up, it will be worth it eventually.
the crafted gear on the way to max skill isnt anything to write home about or anythign that you will crit your pants for, but at end game alot of the gear is a nice starting boosst so it can be worth it.
at 375 LW,
-you have Drums which can be a nice boost to group DPS/HoT/2 sec fear
-Armor kits always sell well, and while levling, throwing on a +8 stam to your chest/feet/hands/legs for the 3 or so levels before the gear is repalced is a good cheap way to enchant your stuff.
-riding crops are expensive in mats, but sell well
-leg patches sell every will to rogues/tanks and many others
-good easy way to get some epic gear the day you ding 70, just have to craft it up.
-mid-50's crafted gear does DE into Illision dust and greater eteranl ess's which always sell for a good price.
if you like it, stick with it.

I love that I went LW, as a resto druid in 10 man raids I always end up in the dps group for some reason and I have drums of battle as does a hunter in that group, and popping those every minute means for about 40 seconds of each minute they're fighting w/o haste. Basically it's a nice increase to the dps and less of a hassle for me because I end up healing less when bosses die faster.

But, you can make some pretty good armor kits, on my server, Ysondre, I can sell Heavy Knothide Kits for about 16-20 gold depending on how the market is going and farming the mats is not hard. Along with the Nethercleft and Nethercobra kits you can make quite a nice amount of gold for em.

When you do end up specializing its pretty good too, there are some pretty good items between the three specializations.

Oh and for the gear you craft, it sucks until you hit outlands. So I suggest having a friend who enchants DE all the crap you make, or you can do it yourself if you have an enchanter. Thats what I did as I leveled and it fueled me with gold through 1-70 and still does.

The epic 70 LW itmes are very nice, I don't know your class so I don't know which ones might interest you in particular. Also the drums are a great buff for any class, Drums of Battle are of special note. On my server, Mok'Nathal, you can also make tons of money from the leg armor kits

Drums are pretty much amazing when you get to end-game. I know guilds that make every single raid group have at least one person with drums (including healers).

i didnt expect so many positive responses. i guess i'm just going to stick with it cuz it sounds like it might be worth it at end game. thanks to everybody who responded.

Two shammies + Three Leatherworkers = The greatest dps group ever.

I probably keep about 150-200 charges of Drums of Battle on me at all times because I have a haste addicted warlock friend who absolutely emplores me to have them so he can abuse his haste procs.
