Fishing confusion: stuck at lvl 35, skill 150Follow

#1 Jul 13 2008 at 12:37 PM Rating: Decent
At level 34, I got the book from Old Man Heming in Booty Bay to get my fishing skill ability to 225, but after reaching 150, it would not increase no matter how much I fished (my fishing skill says it's 150/225). I assumed this was because I was level 34 and needed to reach 35 and do the level 35 fishing quest as listed in at this suggested guide (thanks, it's great info):

However, I reached level 35 and I went to Nat Pagle as this guide directed but he has no quest for me.

The WoW guide: http://www.wowguideonline.com/fishing.html says his quest is not available until you are fishing skill 225.

Allakhazam says Nat's quest is not available until the toon is level 40.

Which guide is correct? I know I should be able to level up to 225, but fishing gives me zero skill ups. How can I enable fishing to skill up again?

would just go with what alla says and just wait till you hit 40 for the quest.

The OP can't do Nat Pagle's fishing quest until she hits 225 fishing skill.

You should be getting a skillup every ~5 catches or so. I can't think of anything in-game that would prevent you from skilling up as long as you're making successful catches.

Submit a ticket to a GM and explain that you've now gone XX catches since reading Old Man Heming's book, without getting a single skillup point. See what they have to say about the situation, since this definitely sounds rather odd. Good luck!

Skilling up isn't RNG based like mining/herbing, it's on a per catch basis so if you go say 20 catches (successful catches) without a skill up your skill is borked, raise a ticket.

Also, make sure you're LOOTING the fish as just closing the window may not be enough to count as a 'successful catch'.

Really? I thought you just needed to make the catch.

From what I recall, you get the skill point when you get the fish from the loot window. So if you're not taking the fish, it's as though you didn't catch it, i.e. no skill increase.

Put your Toon on auto-loot and have at it.

You get better skill ups if you are fishing an area that is about your level and you must loot the fish to get credit for a catch. You will be able to get the quest from Pat when your fishing skill is 225 and you are at least level 35.

Wrong answer there , you can skill up in any starting town to maximum except for the quest of course , it makes no difference where you fish at all , as it works differently to questing , i know i tried it and it takes EXACTLY the same amount of catches in town as it does in outland only the town is far easier .

at 150 i think it should be about 4 catches per skillup point ?. if you catch 10 with no skillup then as others have said ask a Gm to check for you .

Hi there and welcome to Alla. :)

Your information regarding skillups is incorrect. You can sit in Thunderbluff or Stormwind and make the same skillups as you would fishing in Outland. The only difference is the quality of the fish you catch.

Quote:
Catches Required to Gain a Point of Skill Current Fishing Skill Average Number of Successful Catches to Gain a Point of Skill
From To
1 75 1
75 145 2
145 190 3
190 225 4
225 265 5
265 300 6
300 340 10.5
340 375 11.5

Above 300, each skill gain takes at least 10 catches, but the precise number varies: Between 300 and 340, an average of 10.5 catches per skill point; 340-375 an average of 11.5 catches per skill point.

Lyllyth,is this still the case? Are you still stuck at 150/225?

They removed the character level from learning the book available from Old Man Heming. The only requirement now is having fishing skill of at least 125. Once learning that you should be able to get to 225, then you need to be level 35 and have 225 skill in fishing in order to get Nat Pagle's quest.

If you are unable to raise your skill past 150 then you will not be able to get the quest from Nat, so trying to do that is not really the solution. As others have suggested, try opening a ticket with a GM and explaining that even though you learned the book to raise your skill above 150, you are unable to do so. Hope it works out for you, good luck!

On a side note, you do not have to actually loot the fish to get credit. I've gained quite a few levels by clicking the bobber and making another cast without looting. All it takes is a successful catch, whether looted or not.

I can confirm this.
While bored, and with a full inventory (thus no room for any fish) I levelled at least 20 levels of fishing at the pond in Thunderbluff without ever looting a single fish.
