Shiney New Horizon for Engineering?Follow

This could just be me, but I see an absolutly bright siney light in the dark moneyless pit known as Engineering. I am talking about a certain aspect of Wrath of the Lich King that involves vehicles and who better to upgrade those deadly hunks of metal than an engineer. I would love to see Blizzard implement an enchant or jewel crafting like system for these vehicles except for engineer made items. I could see it being done one of two ways. Method one would be identical to enchanting except for you do it to your tank copter w/e doing things like increase armour by 5%. Method two (what i believe to be the better of the two) is more like jewel crafting in that engineers can make armour plating, jet thrusters, upgraded missles, et cetra, et cetra. Each vehicle would have certain slots (depending on the vehicle), lets use a tank as an example it might have a slot for its cannon, one for its engine, and one for its armour. You would be able to make say Light Adamantite Armour Plating (just using old metals as an example) wich would say increase armour by 5% or Heavy Adamantite Armour wich increases armour by 10% but decreases speed by 5% (heavier armour weighs it down and makes it slower). For engine you could have Upgraded Adamantite Engine increasing speed by 5% or Super Turbo Adamantite Engine increasing speed by 10% but it takes say 5% more damage (due to the fact that the engine is larger therefore more of it is exposed). For missles you could have Rapid Fire Missles increases missle speel cool down by 2 seconds or High Explosive Missles increases damage by 5%.*

*All numbers and names used were for example only and merely a simplified statistics.

I'll add an additional suggestion - if an engineer is using the vehicle give it some kind of bonus to it due to said engineer's superior understanding of mechanical stuff.

Think about it - you've got a tailor a LW a enchanter and an engineer in the four man vehicle - which of them is more likely to figure out and be comfortable with the vehicle, who's most likely to have a better understanding of its limitations and capabilities, what tradeskill is going to be the one doing the in combat repairs when something goes wrong?

Exactly - the engineer!

So if an engineer is part of a vehicle's crew, give it some kind of bonus, like maybe a 5% increase in damage if its a goblin engineer and a 5% increase in health if its a gnome engineer (since the goblin engineer is going to focus on tweeking the guns while the gnome engineer will be more inclined to repair things in combat).

I see a dark moneyless pit at the end of my bright shiney light of Engineering.

I've been making crazy money with the Zapthrottle. I make more gold per hour farming with it than I do doing dailies. (I mine in either situation, so it cancels out)

However, there's no guarantee that the Zapthrottle will have a use in Northrend, or that there will be something similar to replace it.

Oh well. A quick dip in my Scrooge McDuck pit of gold should refresh me.

That's why I am currently padding my purse, in anticipation of WotLK.

There still may be a use for primals in the next expansion, but we'll have to see.

I do like the vehicle suggestion.

Ha ha, yeah. They should have just called it the 'free money machine'.

Ah, but I don't use my Turbo-charged flying machine...I am sneaky mote gatherer. :)

Zapthrottle for the win! It was one of two reasons I took Engineering.
The other was the Field Repair Bot.

I had never seen one used until I was in Scholo and we were about 3/4 through, and someone said "next death I need to repair". The engineer says "here ya go" and pops up a repair bot. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen (until zapping my 1st cloud).

Back on topic, I am also hopeful that the expansion will hold many new surprises for ALL professions, but expecially Engineering and Blacksmithing. Engineers are cursed that most of their stuff can only be used by Engineers, and Blacksmiths are cursed that most of their high-end stuff is BoP (at least, the majority of stuff from the trainer).

So yeah, if there's more stuff that can be made or used by/for others (like enchanting and jewelcrafting) I will be very pleased.

Oh, and something with lots of gears and fire and smoke.
