Ok this has been bothering me lately.....I am currently Herbs/Alch but Im not really that crazy bout alchemy anymore.....Im 351 in alch and Im not sure if the future potions/elixirs i can make will be worth keeping alch or not....Im a mage so ive thought about tailoring but it seems really expensive and Ive been thinking about enchanting which seems really useful plus my guild bank has alot of leftover dusts and essences from another enchanter.....Any opinions are tips would be helpful.

If you are not T5 geared, then you should get Tailoring. No questions asked. The BoP gear is just awesome!! It pretty easy/cheap to power level Tailoring, so that shouldn't be an issue.

If you are T5 geared, then do whatever you want. Alchemy is a great profession since you use so many consumables raiding/running instances. Enchanting is another solid profession. It's really up to you, and what you prefer.

What do you want from Alchemy?

My main is an alchemist because I love being able to make my own pots/elixers without having to wait for them on the AH. I make a good chunk of cash too, but it isn't as profitable as Jewelcrafting or Enchanting.

This.

Alchemy is fun and useful, especially for leveling, since you can make great potions while questing. However, it isn't a great money maker (although you can probably turn a profit) compared to jewelcrafting or enchanting, and nowhere near the profit of gathering professions.

In the end, you take it for three reasons:

1. You like it (why I took it up on my mage)
2. You like what it gives you without the expensive price tags attached on the AH (could still be more expensive than buying off the AH, but it doesn't feel like it.
3. You want the BoP stone at the end of all the hard work.

If you don't reach any of these criteria (or the 4th one: you feel you've invested too much to turn back), then drop it. Take tailoring if you'd like some amazing PvE gear.

I am 375 alchemy/375 spellfire tailor, Belf Mage. I was 375 herbalism, but was encouraged to drop it in order to gain the benefit of the spellfire set. I love alchemy since I make a lot of money by transmuting metas, such as earthstorm and skyfire diamonds. I pay a guildfriend of mine 10g to cut them into various meta gems and then sell them for a serious profit. My husband is herbalism, but I usually buy mats for pots and flasks, to be honest. You could also do a combination of tailor and enchanting as many mages do, but I like alchemy. The only other profession that I would consider switching my mage to would be jewelcrafting, one for all the love they got in Sunwell and in the 2.4.2 patch, and two, big, big coin.
