for a while now ive been planning to have my rogue drop herbalism and take up engineering alongside alchemy, while my hunter gatherer will have mining and herbalism to provide me and my JC shaman with resources.

However something came to my notice recently. The expansion will be coming out with loads of new herbs and mining nodes and recipes for alchemy and engineering.

So the problem is, ill have to level my gatherer alt to get any sort of headway for my two proffesions. buying resources is gonna be horribly expensive with all the new prices if i want to do both alchemy and engineering properly.

But engineering offers many beenfits and expands my raid utility. Plus its just damn fun. But taking it would highly inconvenience me when the expansion comes and ****** my growth and enjoyment.

WotLK is still months away.

Just drop herbs for engineering if that gives you any benefits. Once WotLK arrives, you can decide to keep engineering or to switch back to herbs. Herbalism is very easy and cheap to level so you can always reroll it.

OK, so if I understand you right, you want to end up with:

Hunter - herb/mining
Rogue - eng/alch
Shaman - JC/???

How does that affect you when WotLK comes out? Of course you'll have to level your gathering alt. This will happen regardless of what profs you pick. Maybe I'm just missing something...

I have to assume your gathering alt (i.e. the Hunter) is lvl 70 with an epic flier, so leveling to 80 with him/her shouldn't be an issue. Especially with the ease that Hunters level.
