Hey, I just started WoW a couple weeks ago and wanted to start a profession. I heard gathering professions are better to start with. So I was wondering what combination of 2 would be the best. Herbalism/Skinning, Herbalism/Mining or Mining/Skinning? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Herbalism and Mining is a tricky combination, because you would need to keep switching between the two tracking buttons on your minimap.

I would recommend skinning - it doesn't require any tracking in minimap, plus you are going to be killing skinnable mobes anyway.

After that it is personal preference whether you take mining or herbalism. I would say that mining is more lucrative, since it is the feeder profession for both engineering and blacksmithing. This can mean that there is more competition for mining nodes.

Herbalism there is less competition amongst players, as it really only feeds the alchemy profession (although indications are that herbalism will also feed into the new Inscription profession coming in the Wrath expansion).

Fixed that for you. Additionally, mining is harder to level than herbalism, but don't let that dissuade abyone from trying it. Since you are feeding three crafting professions, you will make gold faster than with herbalism (until you get to high-end herbs).

Also something to note is that switching back and forth between herb and ore tracking really isn't that hard. You might be a little less efficient and miss some nodes but I think that the market for herbs and ores will make up for any you miss.
