I just switched my specialization last night from Potions to Elixirs. I'm just figuring now that I've discovered the Super Rejuv Potion my chances to get the flask discoveries might be somewhat better by grinding out elixirs. And I did discover one in my first 20 adept's but that's probably just luck.

Here's my question. What elixir should I use to grind out these discoveries? Is there one that you can make a profit on or at least not lose your shirt? I would guess Adept's but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks again for the help.

1. My understanding of Discoveries is that any Outland potion, elixir, flask or transmute has a chance to result in a Discovery. Everything I've seen on this forum suggests that it's an entirely random occurrence.

2. A good rule of thumb for all tradeskills is that the easier something is for you to do, the harder it is for you to profit from it. For example, if you spend a session mass-producing Adept's Elixir (or any other) and one other person on your server decides to do the same that night, then I'm going to be able to buy up a bunch of Adept's for <2g each that week (which'll make me rather happy, so I won't call this wrong at all!).

We're serious when we keep repeating "You have to know your own server economy if you want to make a profit from your profession." You have to look not only at the going market price but have some idea what the market volume is as well, for the mats as well as the craftable. For example, what is your plan if you crank out 200 pots/elixirs and sell them at a not-too-discounted price, but you log on the next day to try grinding again only to find the price of Felweed has doubled thanks to your mass consumption of raw mats? These things happen.

I wish you luck in however you choose to proceed, but keep in mind the basic WoW principle that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

To make my discoveries I just churn out the following

- Super Mana Potions
- Super Healing Potions
- Earthen Elixirs
- Elixir of Major Agility

The first two sell reasonably well (ie fast) on my realm. The latter two I use myself as a feral druid.

Discoveries are independent of your Mastery, it doesn't matter if you are Potion or Elixir Master.

I'm an elixer master and I've discovered three flasks to date and every one of them was via grinding super mana pots.

I've also discovered 4-5 xmutes and all of them were doing earth to water each day (albeit, that's about the only xmute I ever do).

I'm not aware of any elixers or pots that can only be found due to doing combines - I think its only flasks?

I grind mana pots due to how easy the mats are to farm and the fact that they've got a rather nice sell price on my server (around 15g for a stack of 5).

I suggest finding a pot master to work with. Our guild potions guy makes my stuff (mostly MADs for my use, but also some mana and healing pots to sell) and I make his elixirs. We supply our own materials, but we give the other any procs we get.

I'd guess it evens out quantity-wise and the extras we get is a nice bonus.
