are you max skill? It happens a lot while skinning b/c it's that easy to skill up.

Read the Sticky...

Skinning doesn't give a guaranteed skill-up with orange because, as said, it is so easy to get a lot of things to skin at once.

Also, it appears to be much harder to level your skinning in outland, so I if you are the 300 levels in the outland, I would actually suggest going back to winter spring and going on a skinning rampage there. Your skinning will raise faster.

I don't know why it is, if it is just myth, or if they changed it, just what I found by personal experience.

Best skill gains from skinning are yellow and green, with yellow being the best by far. Orange procs a skill up so rarely, but really you'll be killing enough things in the Outlands it matters more what kind of mats you're looking to get than anything else.

It's worth knowing that the colors *do* lie if you have a +skill racial, like a Blood Elf's +10 to enchanting. Because your chance to skill up is based on your unadjusted skill level, you can continue to skill up on recipies even after they turn grey. For example, I levelled my Blood Elf's enchanting ten points by repeatedly turning small prismatic shards to large prismatic shards and back again, even though both recipies are grey when you buy them. The skillup rate was low, but since no components were lost the points were essentially free.

As one of the previous poster said there's a good chance your skill is maxed and you don't realize it. That's happened to me a couple times, you start skinning so many things and you don't realize it but you're suddenly 300/300. Then you skin about 15 things and finally realize it! :)

This caught me by surprise as well. Somewhere on these forums from years ago is a similar post I made. *smiles* I believe it’s the only exception to how all other professions work. So it is rather confusing at first. But I understand the reason for it. There are so many opportunities to practice skinning as compared to say mining or herbalism, that if Blizzard hadn’t changed the way it works players would max out their skinning far too quickly.

But as others have said, make sure your skill isn’t capped. Even after three years of playing I sill find myself doing that.
