I'm currently a 375 Enchanter and a 363 Engineer and it has finally dawned on me that my enchanting really isn't too useful. The only 'unique' enchant I have is Battlemaster and no one wants that one. A gigantic money sink with next to no tips given to me is rough. Given that I have to hawk my enchants to even sell any sucks too, but disenchanting and ring enchants are what's made me stick with it.

Recently, I had been meaning to drop engineering for something else, as I originally took it only for the goggles, which are pure SR gear now that I have T6 head, but since I've been playing with the explosives as of late, I totally love engineering. Frost Grenades especially are my favorite, even saved the raid on Illidan a few times, but I digress.

What do you think? Is Enchanting worth +24 spelldamage and being able to disenchant my own crap or would mining better suit my new love for engineering and make me a bit more cash for myself without having to spam /2? I'm leaning towards mining, but I'd like to see other views.

Thanks.

Both are fine.

If you like flying around to get mats for your bombs, then go Mining.

If you like to hang out in AH to make money, then buy mats for your bombs, then stick with Enchanting.

Either way, you can support your bomb habit, and make money (both will make you good money).

Honestly, it sounds like you are ready for a change. As long as you are not the guild enchanter, you would probably have more fun with mining.

Thing about enchanting, it scales with your progression. Pretty much all other profession craft-ables can be out-classed by a raid piece eventually (if not now, then maybe in a future patch). Enchanting your rings however, tacks onto whatever gear upgrade you get. No matter how good the rings you have, you can still enchant them and get the enchanting bonus of 24 spell damage. Mining is good because it gives you money, but that's about it. You can get that from leveling an alt to be a miner.

That and, soon you will be venturing into Sunwell, and the headpiece for engineering there is amazing from what I can tell.

I'm not the guild enchanter so it's not a huge deal for me to stick with enchanting, aside from Disenchanting and the spell damage, and as I said, I have no zomg rare enchants.

Thing about alt mining is that I don't really enjoy playing my alts too much. My highest level alt is only 25 and I just don't have nearly as much on him as I do on my main.

Hard decision, but I think mining is what route I'll take.

My vote is to keep enchanting.

Dropping it so you can earn a few gold to support engineering is very shortsighted. Gold is so easy to come by post 2.4.

Why waste time spamming the trade channel trying to earn a few gold from lousy tippers when you can be running the SSO dailies?

In patch 2.4, Blizz gave us much love with all of the Enchanting Dailies. Sure they're not labeled as such and anyone can do them but really, all the dailies that give a Shattered Sun Supplies pack are essentially quests for DisEnchanters.

These dailies are seriously easy quests that give 10g, a shot at a BOJ, and a green item that DE's into 2-5 dusts, 1-2 GPE or a LPS.

The gold earned alone is enough to buy whatever ore you need for engineering. Sell all the mats you get from DE'ing the rewards will get you even more gold. You will reach a point when gold is no longer an issue. At that time, stat/performance boosts will be more of an issue.

If you pvp, the ring enchants alone are enough of a reason to keep enchanting. I'd never give up the +24 damage (especially as an elemental shammy) just to make some more gold. The extra increase to damage is almost priceless. Either you'll have more damage than your opponent and be at an advantage or have the same damage and not be at a disadvantage.

If you don't PVP much, +24 damage still repesents 2.6% of your current damage. That's a significant boost.

Also, at 375 skill you'll probably be able to DE anything in the next expansion right from the beginning. And there will be cool new enchanting recipes. There won't be any cool new mining recipes. Just new ore to mine.

That's also a good point, thanks.

The grass is always greener...

Keep enchanting. You spent a TON to level it, I'm sure. You have +24 spell damage that no one else can have. Disenchanting can make a TON more than mining if you play the AH well (although prospecting can make a ton too, I hear).

If you want to get mining, especially to feed your engineering addiction, consider a druid alt. Then you have stealth and flight form (for free!) to get to those tough-to-find nodes. Add in Jewelcrafting for prospecting, and voila! Money-maker x2.

Agreed. Plus when the expansion comes out in a few months, there will surely be a lot more goodies available for Enchanting.

I wouldn't do this if I were you.

I've got 375 mining and 365 engineering and I've decided that I need enchanting. I'm just wondering if I should drop engineering (not using my googles anymore) or mining. And really, I see no reason to take mining. I can make easy money and buy the ore, that's all I need. I don't need to get bored farming ore.

I can't imagine not having enchanting. Sure, you can get someone else to DE all your stuff for you, but the advantage of being able to do it yourself saves you so much money you might have to spent on the AH to buy mats every time you get a new piece of gear. Until I took jewelcrafting on my shaman, disenchanting made me the most money. You just have to be patient is all. It takes a lot less time to scan the AH for items to DE for sale than it does to go out and mine the equivalent amount of gold in ore.

The only money I make off enchanting is from DE stuff and selling the mats. I make next to nothing on selling enchants.
