Is this item still great to find? I got one yesterday out of a Dark Iron Vein and ran along to the AH and saw only 1 on the AH. It was up for 100G, so I threw mine up for 90G especially seeing that the deposit was a few silver.

I'm thinking that finding a blood of the mountain isn't as great as it once was with all the new/better TBC gear out there. It didn't sell hence my question. (nor did the 2 large fangs that I accidently put up for 75G instead of 75S...go figure)

The answer to your question will come if you can actually sell it.

Usually, if you only see 1 on the AH, then it's not worth very much. Someone is probably trying to find some newbie who doesn't know any better.

well you can't always look at the number of things on the AH. There are often times there is only 1 silver ore (or I've seen no silver ore on before) then I list my stack of 5 for 25G and it sells within the hour....obviously someone really needed silver at that particular moment in time.

But that silver example is something that I am familiar with and know that it does always sell. Blood of the mountain....this is my first ever and I know it use to be like hitting the jackpot.

It didn't sell for 90G, it is in some higher level recipes though they are the old high level recipes from pre-tbc I believe, hence my doubt that its worth much anymore.

Just wanted to tap into the brain trust of the allakhazam users to be sure.

It probably isn't worth much. The only REAL uses for it are the Smoking Heart of the Mountain trinket for a druid tank pre-70 (and there are better ones, but this one has armor on it, which is relatively rare around that level), and the Sulfuron Hammer, if someone is having a masochistic/nostalgic phase and wants to get a Sulfuras.

Otherwise, it is useless. However, it is still rare, so you can probably get SOME gold for it, even if it's not a lot.

That’s exactly what I used it for. I think my 70 druid is still using it. *shrugs* But it was a pain in the backside to make back then. I doubt most people would go to that much trouble to make something that they would replace after getting into Outland. I don’t do instances so I’ve not stumbled upon a good replacement for it yet.

I can't speak to this specific item but you shouldn't assume that seeing only one item on the AH means there is no demand for it. I often see one or no items for things that I know are in fairly high demand; in those cases you can sell them for a substantial premium.

Since the deposit is only a few silver, you can afford to be patient. You might need to lower the price once or twice but I wouldn't give it away unless you are certain that demand for it is low.

Put it up with a high-ish buyout but a lower stating bid (thinking maybe 20g bid, 80 buyout) and see if people are bidding on it.

If it's that rare and nobody will even bid 20g on it you know you probably just got lucky with a rare drop that isn't worth much.

Kinda like the Stonerender Gauntlets I got off a mob in Un'goro that I ended up disenchanting after 10 tries on the AH.

When I was ready to run BRD I went to find some of this stuff on the AH and saw 2 of them up there (both from the same guy) for around 30g with a 35buyout. I bought one to make Smoking Heart of the Mountain for my druid, but have yet to find a group that can make it past the golems after Ambassador Flamelash so I still have the mats in my bag.

I just hit 61, and I watched some vids on Youtube of soloing to the forge via stealth and a quick lava run so I might try that.

Check the date on the video. A while back Blizzard killed this strategy for level 60s by putting roaming fire elementals in the lava. They'll pelt you with fire balls, and that + lava damage will probably kill you before you make it to solid ground to Vanish.

Ha ha, yeah, I learned that the hard way when I jumped off the bridge and immediately got stunned by an elemental hiding in the lava.

However, I eventually went back with 2 other high 60's guildies and we blasted our way to black forge getting some shards on the way there.

I am now the proud owner of a Smoking Heart of the Mountain.

I'll have to agree with veena on this one. I'm not sure whether the demand for the Blood is high on my server in regards to the trinket, but I'd like to think I'm not the only one who looks for deals on them for the sole purpose of rep. I know for a fact there are plenty of OCDs who strive be exalted with as many factions as possible across the servers. Building up a nice stock of Blood of the Mountain with Dark Iron Ore and other turn ins can take a nice chunk out of the road towards exalted when you go to turn them all in as a sort of lump sum deal.
