Another question about engineering? Oh Noes!Follow

So yes... it's that time again.

I know how much engineering can be a money drain but the head pieces just look so appetizing I can't resist.

I'm wondering if I should drop herb after bringing up my alch to 375, and then take up mining to stack up on ores, then drop that to take engineering. I know that would be such a pain and waste of time, but should I do that or just keep my herb/alch combo?

This way too, I can stack up or ones for my engineering on my rogue as well.

I had skinning/LW till I hit 375 LW, then I dropped skinning for mining. I managed to grind it up to Mithril (230ish) and found it so monotonous that I just dropped mining and bought everything off the AH. It cost me about 2300g and one Saturday to hit 360ish Engineering and I just got the repair bot plans yesterday while doing the Simon Ogrilla daily, which took me to 374.

My whole thing is the fact that my shammy is only 60 at the moment (without epic ground right now). And you're right... I did pick up mining before on my rogue, and hated it with a passion.

But repicked up engineering because, like I said, the goggles just look too good to pass up.

Now I want to pick it up on my shammy.

If you really want to do this, stock up on gold first and then buy your bars from the AH. Let some other fool scurry around Elwynn endlessly mining copper for you; you want to pick a few Outland herbs to get the gold to buy those bars. It's a much better use of your time.

The 2.4 change in smelting skill-ups was really designed to help people like you, since more people have an incentive to smelt their ores first before listing them on the AH. Trying to buy enough mithril bars and especially thorium bars would have given you fits previously.

I would suggest not dropping any professions until WotLK is released, since you might need Herbalism to skill up on Alchemy when you are on the way to 80.
