Since 2.4, Void Shatter can break a void crystal into 2 Large Prismatic shards. Okay, fine.

With that now in place, you would expect void crystal price to increase, and the LPS to either decrease or stay the same.

Well, somehow the economy on my server is *** backwards. Prices on them before the patch were 25g for the voids, 20-25g for the LPS. Well, now they are 20g for the voids, and a consistent 30-35g for the LPS. I would normally attribute this to supply/demand except for now there are more than double the amount of LPS on the ah than there were before. Before the patch there used to be about 60-70 LPS on ah, now there is over 150.

My brain is trying to figure out exactly what went wrong with our server?

Any ideas?

everyone is keeping the prices high/posting at teh same/similar prices because more people need LPS than void crystals.

Mine is similar, VC = 25g LPS = 25g

Same on my server,

Remember that new gear means new enchants so it will really kick off when season 4 gets here.

New gear, new chants. Understandable.

But by that logic, it would mean that there would be fewer amount on the ah, since they are being eaten by enchants. So prices would rise.

However, the server saw a complete double of the amount of large prismatic shards, and a consistent 10g jump in price. Increased demand, but an even larger increase in supply, so a large increase in price?

There are a lot of things going on here:

-Not everyone has the pattern, and the ones that do, the Rod to use it costs about 400g.
-As mentioned, lost of people are getting new gear and as such getting new enchants.
-With the new dailies, gold is much easier to come by, so people are more willing to pay 10g more for something.

Give it time and you may see the LPS go down in price, or VCs climb, but right now everything is way too new and there is way too much goingon with the economy to attribute it just to "more out there makes them cheaper".

The people who can do Void Shatter are typically the folks that already have Mongoose, Executioner or any other raid-obtained enchant due to those enchants requiring the Eternium rod. Many folks who don't raid don't need the Eternium rod, as such they can't do Void Shatter even though they probably have the SSO rep to do so.

New badge vendor on most servers are live plus 2 instances on Isle of Quan'Dalas, which that means lot of new gears, which in turns lots of enchants would be needed. LP would probably remain expensive for a while longer.

It's even more extreme on my server - pre 2.4, LPS went for 18-23g each. Now they sell for 40.

Personally, I love it. I buy up any the LPS producing blues selling for less than 30g and sell the shard for 40.

As noted by others the Runed Eternium Rod (500g cost on my server) is a barrier to entry which reduces how many people actually do Void Shatter. Daily sales on the AH of the basic Eternium Rod is only 1 to 2 since the 2.4 patch, with slightly higher sales on the weekend. Of course many may choose to get it crafted by a friend instead.

Another limiting factor is profession skill as 375 is not cheap to reach and many enchanters may be bank alts with little need for enchanting skill above what is required to DE top level rare items. I know several of my more casual friends simply do not see the value proposition (ie return on investment) of going for 375 skill.

The 23 hour cooldown further cuts down on the volume of shards being brought to market this way (arguably a trickle compared to other sources) and until Blizzard removes it (patch 3.0 or 3.1 perhaps?) I expect Void Crystals to remain relatively cheap due to the large quantity being generated and limited usage. My own guild has 520 void crystals in the bank and there's over 80 other Alliance raid guilds on the server plus numerous pickup groups running Karazhan, Zul'Aman, heroics etc so the total amount of void crystals in inventory and being generated each day will likely be very high.

Once WotLK hits all bets are off. Demand for 'old' enchants such as Executioner and Mongoose may remain high as people get new weapons but new top end enchants may not yet be available or affordable. With old raid content abandoned the Void Crystal supply will eventually dry up, at which point prices may go nuts and Void Shatter might become unprofitable.

VC = 45g on my server, LPS = 30g or so...

of course, the new badge vendor has just recently come out.
