I read with avid interest a week or so ago that fishing in Tanaris was netting some of you like 80 gold for an hour or so of work. I followed the advice and leveled my fishing the appropriate amount and began to pull in Oily Blackmouths, Firefins, etc from the shores of Tanaris. I excitedly headed to the AH in my great capital city of Ironforge to reap my reward. Argh, the disappontment! Auctioneer recommeded price? Like 30S for a stack of 20! After smaking my bearded cheek a bit in disgust I decide to wait and see if anyone else would sell some for more--you see there weren't any up for auction at the time--after all, auctioneer could be wrong, correct? Any whoo, the next day I did see some on auction for the same measly pittance. Is it just my medium population server (Farstriders) or was I taken hook, line and sinker by some razzle-frassin jokester?

Check the price of fish used for raid snacks, like Golden Darter. I use them to make Golden Fishsticks.

You should level your cooking as you level your fishing. You could sell raid snacks or the fish to make them, or you could use them yourself.

pre-tbc you chould of made some money off the firefins and blackmouths but not so much these days.
You could squeeze a little more money out of them by turning them into oil but again the market has dropped out for those as well.
Darters are still a good catch but you will need to get your skill up much higher to catch them and go to outlands.
This also depends on your server, the original posters server might still have a demand for these supplies.

Don't runecloth/mageweave bolts drop there as well?

I tried doing the same run to see if I could gain that much on my server. When I came up for auction though, I found out oily blackmouth was only 2G a stack(with over 5 stacks selling) and firefin oil was 2G a stack as well.

Mageweave cloth however, were selling for 3G a stack, meaning at the equivalent, I would be able to sell mageweave bolts for 15G a stack. I put them up, and they sold. Mageweave/runecloth bolts are where its at for me I believe.

I also picked up all the oily blackmouth in the AH. Coupled with the stranglekelp I found both while fishing and in the water(I'm a herbalist), I transformed them into free action pots and started selling them. They sold really well, although I'm not really making very much more profit than I could just selling the stranglekelp + blackmouth individually. The free action pot market is barren though, so at least I get to sell my stuff regularly.

Also, check out the price of Deviate fish on your server. They are used in cooking, and in alchemy to make savory deviate delights and elixir of giant growth. At 6-8G a stack on my server, they can be well worth the time.

The gold in Tanaris doesn't come from the cheap fish, although they are a nice add. Mostly, it comes from the debris pools and Stonescale Eels.

I've not had much luck making money on stonescale eels lately. Nightfin tuna and winter squid still go for modest cash, though the Outlands equivalents overshadow them now.

I agree the golden darters in Outlands sell well.

I am not sure if you are Alliance or Horde, but I make 32 gold or more a day day selling Savory Deviate Delight from the Barrens. I could make more if I wanted to spend all my time fishing, but I am also trying to level so I usually make 2 runs of fishing a day.

WTF???

No way - ***** it - if you're the only one with fish then you decide price - put the suckers up for 5g a stack at minimum.

Also, don't forget the chests from the floating wreckage - you'll get bolts of cloth and ore, pots, coin and the occassional green too.
