"Skinning" plant monstersFollow
It would appear that the Marsh Dredgers and Lurkers in the cave for the Saving the Sporeloks quest can't be skinned - is this a bug or simply done to keep grinding spore faction from being too pleasant for herbalists?
were there items left inside? You cant pick them if there are.
If there are not any inside, contact a GM about it.
Also sometimes you have to wait a while when its dead to pick it.

You never could skin them. That probably why you can't skin them. You can herb them after they are dead I think though.

That's what they mean. Pretty sure they're saying they can herb these guys, hence the "skinning" in the title? In any case, I don't remember not being able to pick herbs from these guys when I took my hunter through the area, but that was a year ago so lots could have changed since then!
Oh, I thought they meant that by skinning them they actually meant like the pelt or leather kind of skinning.
I've never been able to skin them. Notice that they look different from the one's you can skin. I don't think its a bug.

Perhaps those monsters qualify as 'humanoid'. Blizz has never allowed skinning of any mobs that fit that category.

Actually, they have - the worgen and yeti are two that come to mind.
Yeah - my first toon was a LW so I always thought of getting herbs out of plant monsters as "skinning" them, albeit, as noted, with quotes.
I didn't know if you ever could get herbs from them, but they are elementals, so theoretically, you can.
I was wondering if anyone had ever noticed and complained about this simply because they're the last mob you can kill to grind to exalted with Spore and I'd like to be able to, as a herbalist, get the herbs along with the faction/XP while grinding them (yeah, I'm being greedy - so what?).

I always think of it as peeling. You skin an animal, you peel a vegetable or fruit. :-)

I'm about to head into that area with my toon does the "skining" require any tool such as a skining knife?
if you are an herbalist, and if the mob is "herbable-skinable" no item (skinning knife) needed, just the herbaliszim skill requirement.
