To start off, where have you been selling your leather? at level 32 you should be getting medium leather if I remember correctly. You should be selling this on the auction house and the price will vary depending on what auction house you are on.

Auction houses are located in every major city of your faction. Speak to the guards in the city and they will mark it on your minimap if you need help to find the auctioneers. Talk to the auctioneers when you find them and search for the leather that you want to sell. find a good price and slap your leather up for sale at a reasonable price.

If your LW level is really low, you can still easily go back to lower level areas and level up your leatherworking skills by killing lower level mobs and skinning them. It is a good idea to keep up your LW skills as you are able to combine lower leathers into higher ones (Ruined Leather Scraps -> light leather, etc.)

To access a list of what you can make, hit the P key to bring up your spellbook. There should be a icon with a brown square that looks like a patch. Click on it and your leatherworking skill window should pop up. This tells you what you can and cannot make. Gather the appropriate materials and start making things that are yellow/orange. They are the best bet to help you level your skill.

Post again if you have anymore questions.

If you want alot of money, I and just about everyone else would suggest two gathering professions. Gathering professions gather materials for crafting professions. For example: skinning goes with leather working because you use primarliy leather that you skinned from animals. Mining goes with blacksmithing, jewelcrafting and engineering. Herbalism goes with alchemy, which is making potions for health and mana and alot of ther kinds of potions.

Generally mining and herbalism isn't chosen together because both require you track veins, herbs on your mini map for faster gathering. The problem occurs when you want to track both at once, but can't because you can only have one form of tracking active at any time.

That said, since you already have skinning I would suggest you get either mining or herbalism. I can't reccomend one because I haven't gone very far with herbalism so I don't know the leveling dificulty compared to mining.

If you want to keep Leatherworking, then buy leathers off the AH once you start making money off skinning or go to a starting zone, like Elwynn Forest/Durotar, and kill/skin the mobs there.

You haven't screwed up your character, nor can you really. You'll be suprised how many people are actually poor in-game, especially at 40/60/70 because of mounts and all. Just remember to sell everything, and try not to buy gear off the AH because you'll probably get better gear for quest rewards anyway.

Here are some links to get you started.
Item quality- just incase you don't know what to sell to vendors and what is worth selling on the AH.

Profession powerleveling- This is a thread with all the professions and which recipes to use to powerlevel them. Most crafting professions will cost alot of money to powerlevel, but they have good guides for gathering profession powerleveling too.

Hope this helped and remember, in the end it doesn't matter what other people tell you, as long as you're having fun playing the game you're doing it right.
Good luck.

Edit: speeling.

No, tradeskills in WoW are a bonus, not a necesity.

If you're broke, just focus on hunting and skinning animals and selling the pelts and leather on the auction house - there's always a demand for leather and you'll easily make good money.

Thanks a million for all of the help you have given me. I didnt think about selling leather to the auction I always sold it to vendors. The links helped me understand alot about the quality of items. Im going to go back to the lower levels to hunt and skin so i can level up my leatherworking i thought that was a very good tip. Once again thanks for the help.
