I have been thinking of dropping enchanting on my 48 Paladin for Blacksmithing. Why? Well right now I have enchant/mining for a while now, and it nets me alot of gold (selling ores on the AH and buying cheap greens on the AH, disenchanting, then selling the mats). However, I do like quite a few things on Blacksmithing, but before I made the change, I just wanted to ask about it.

Here's what I know:

I know that some people have started to turn away from Blacksmithing, due to the season 3 pvp sets (or what some people like to call them, Welfare Epics)

I plan to go weaponsmithing and probably either Hammersmithing or Swordsmithing after.

Currently I'm a Ret Pally, but I might respec to prot sometime, I know a few BOP items such as Thunder, or Lionheart Blade from weaponsmithing are good for Ret, but are there any good weapons for Prot?

And yes, I know crafting professions do use up alot of money, but is there anything I can craft other than enchanting rods that will make me any money from BSing? Also, is BSing really worth it, due to the pvp gear that you can obtain as well?

Also, if I do go BSing, should I wait until I hit lvl 70?

If I do drop enchanting, Ill just drop engineering on my rogue alt and give him enchanting, but is BSing really worth it on my main? Or is it both a waste of time and money?

Even if you decide to make use of the special blacksmithing bonuses (sharpening stones, or especially shield spikes since you're a pally) it will cost quite a bit of money to get it up to a point where they are semi-useful to a 48, and that's ignoring any other quality gear from it. That would take even MORE money. Not to mention, you won't be hunting anywhere where you'll be mining any real ammounts of Thorium for a little bit still, and all the stuff you could want at that level comes from Thorium (and *maybe* Mithril) deposits.

If you really want it for BOP items... wait until you're 70. Even then, if you respec Protection (as you suggest you might) the better Protection weapons are NOT craftables. To get your started at 70 there are a few comparable weapons from world drops, quests (well.. 1 sorta), and reputation that outweigh anything from BS for a Protection Pally.

You're probably getting more out of Enchanting right now. At 70 you could probably weigh the values and make a better decision. Either way, do what you think you'll find fun... doesn't always have to be the "best" thing. If it's fun, it is the best...

Alright then. Thanks for the advice. I'll stick with enchanting for now, as its made me a nice amount of money, and probably will continue to hopefully. ^^
