In general, your gathering professions are the money makers. Choose from Herbalism, Mining, Disenchanting (the money making side of enchanting), or skinning. Since both Herbalism and Mining track on the minimap, consider one of those with Disenchanting or skinning.

As a level 70, you can power level any of those professions rather quickly.

Crafting professions are great for fun and endgame bop gear. Don't go into them with the goal to make money. People do make money on them, but on very specific items they have found profitable. Usually it is better just to gather the mats and sell them, rather than crafting mats into items to sell.

You waited till 70 to start tradeskills? O_o

Erf, well, as suggested, gathering professions are your best bet if you just want to pharm gold, but there's a catch - its gonna be an SOB to level said professions up.

Enchanting is easy, but expensive or time consuming - you can pharm the AH for stuff to DE or, since you're 70, just solo the lower level instances a few dozen times.

Skinning, mining and herbalism all mean you'll have to go to lower level zones and either look for plants/minerals to raise the skills or kill leather dropping animals to skin them.

Mining can also be raised partially from pharming the AH - when you convert ore to metal bars, you can get skill ups, so buy raw ore, make it into bars, then resell it.

For the most part though, you're pretty much F-d with this toon - raising gathering skills from scratch at 70th level is an SOB and a half.

I have to disagree with what you said. Leveling a gathering profession at 70 is almost what I would recommend doing... it is incredibly easy because you have virtually no aggro the entire way to 70. I just did herbalism 1-375 in about 6 hours played, and in that I made about 800g from the herbs that I picked while leveling.

Two problems with your statement -

1) I love tradeskills and even I don't have the temperment to sit down and run around lowby zones for 4-5 hours to do the first 300 points and then fly around Outland for the last 75 for another 2 hours.

2) You failed to mention that herbalism is hands down the easiest skill to level - that's well established and agreed.

So by not giving this guy realistic expectations, you're almost setting him up for failure if he tries something other then Herbalism.

He didn't say every gathering profession was going to get maxed out in 6 hours, YOU assumed he meant every profession would get maxed out that fast.

Actually, most money making guides pertaining to professions say to take up two gathering professions. Once at 50, give or take a few levels, you drop one gathering profession, because you should have enough money to drop one, and take up a crafting profession. Once at 70 you drop the second gathering profession, again because you should be swimming in gold by now, and take up another crafting profession you would like to do.

I can see how that can work, but I wouldn't do that particular strategy seeing as how a new x-pac is on the horizon and would require gathering again which will have overpriced mats again for a few weeks at the least.

Best crafting profession I'd suggest would be enchanting for selling mats, but like everyone said you won't make much money off any crafting profession.

I never said he did - you're the only one making assumptions here - reread what I posted since you obviously missed my point the first time.

As a veteran tradeskiller, I recognized that his example was a poor one - herbalism is fast and easy to skill up and he failed to mention that - I simply pointed this failing out for any novice who might read this thread and, lacking the XP we have, think that this guy's herbalism example applies to all gathering skills.

That's right. YOU don't have the temperament. That does not mean that nobody else does. YOU are not the person who posted the original question. It is extremely presumptuous of you to assume that your temperament is the same as his. I'll apologize to you if you can prove that the OP is a sockpuppet of yours.

Mining only takes slightly longer, and Disenchanting a few days more (but about the same amount of played time - you just have to wait for the AH to replenish itself). So what? Are you in that much of a hurry that you can't take a few hours out of your gaming to make some gold?

Prior to that, I had done mining 1-375 in about 7 or 8 hours played, not too much of a difference and still netting a large amount of money to do it. I didn't specifically state that all gathering skills will level in 6 hours, but it doesn't take a freaking week to do it, I did mine over a 2 day span, 1-300 one day and the last 75 was a snap. Once you have your epic mount and a flying mount (or better yet an epic flying mount) leveling gathering professions is extremely easy. I followed an herbalism leveling guide and new where to go to get the next points, which, as I stated earlier, was very easy because of a tiny aggro bubble.
