WTF is up with mining?Follow

My level 32 Hunter is at 118 Mining (or somewhere around there) and everything is grey except for Silver, which is green. I've never been a Miner before, but from what I get, Silver is a rarer deposit.

How am I supposed to get my mining up? The only thing that gives levels is green and a rarer spawn.

How did you level your mining? Smelting ot by actually mining? I don't know for sure but you might be able to mine iron at that level, try doing that.

I'm guessing you're trying to level by smelting, which won't work. You have to level primarily by mining, at some point (I forget what ore), smelting stuff will be grey before you even train it.

If not, Tin is still green for you (to mine) at 115. Keep leveling on that and once you hit 125 you can mine Iron.

Mining has a lvl gap that sucks between copper and iron. You level fast, but then you need to find silver or Tin to get you to 125 (I THINK) to mine iron.

What you should do is go to the gave in the wetlands that holds incendicite. At your lvl you'll be able to clear the cave easy. Mine the ore to 125 and forget about this period of the profession....

Incendicite is the objective of the alliance quest Search for Incendicite, which is given to you by Pilot Stonegear in Dun Morogh. As you leave Dun Algaz (The cave thing to Loch Modan) the incendicite is in a mine on your LEFT. Lot's of little spiders in there.

Google "Incendicite, Wetlands" - the map is like the second link.

Yeah, don't try and level by smelting. Just do it by normally mining actual nodes.

Ahh. That would make sense as to why my mining is at 83 (I'm only a level 15 paly), but yet, I can't find the silver in Westfall. even though my mining deal in the minimap shows me I'm there... Unless I'm missing it completely. Any help? If i show it on my minimap, it won't be underneath me in the mine will it?? I am next to the Jagolode mine in Westfall.... Thanks,

Yeah it's most likely in the mine especially if the dot is more faded than yellow

If you are in range of a mineral node it will show up on your mini map whether it’s above or below ground. The nodes above ground will show up brighter than those below ground. You’ll eventually be able to tell the difference at a glace. After copper you need to be watching for tin. Tin can be found in Westfall in the two bandit caves, along the shore (a bit on the beach but mostly on the land above it) and it can be found in the mines that lead to the Deadmines instance. It can also be found along the hills behind the higher level gnolls. If you can find and mine silver that’s good too, but silver is a rare spawn so don’t count on finding it.

tin will give you skill ups until 125, when you can mine iron. go to 1k needles and do circles around the whole place. mine the tin and copper until you get to 125 and then keep going and mine the iron.

silver is a rare spawn that shows up sometimes in tin locations.

You don't need the quest to mine it, you still get the skill-ups which is the real point of mining it - to get through the "desert" between 80ish and 125.

Thousand Needles is a great place for horde to level mining from 80ish to 125.

There is a ton of tin there and when you do finally hit 125 there's a decent amount of iron as well.

Also, horde (and alliance) can go to the Kobold cave in Arathi Highlands (it's the cave you have to go to for part of the Princess trapped questline) and mine lesser bloodstone ore, which will easily get you to 125.

Then while you're in Arathi you may as well make a circuit of the zone and pick up all the iron nodes there. Who knows you might even get to 175 and be able to pick up the mithril nodes too.

Just to let you all know, patch 2.4 will buff the range of lvls ores give. Not sure if this will apply to smelting as well.

Don't worry about it. The only thing that mining level affects is the ability to mine higher level nodes. You can level up on just mining even if you never smelt; you will just naturally level up on the nodes in your current area to tackle the next one. The only way you could be unable to mine is if you used mining infrequently and progressed to the next level of difficulty before you were ready. If you mine a lot, this won't happen.

The ability to smelt the ore should be available about the time you are mining it.

So, if you are saying smelting silver is green (you are a fairly accomplished silver smelter) and you are only seeing silver rarely, you can smelt way above the level you currently need to. Mine a bit more, and more smelting will open up.

If you are lvl32 I'd suggest you fly to Duskwood.

Leave Darkshire by the south road then work your way north onto the plateau directly to the west of the town. There is tin and copper there on the right.
Head towards the Twilight Grove hills and you will find iron (and occasionally gold). - added bonus to skinners as you can skin the Nightbane's!

Now work your way west around the north side of the grove and part way down the western edge - you should find more copper, tin and occasionally silver.

Cut across to the outcrop near Raven Hill cemetery and you will find copper, and iron (maybe a tin node?).

Continue round the southern edge to the road that leads to STV and take the side road to the Ogre mound. Traverse that (and the cave) and you will find more copper, tin and iron (occasionally silver/gold).

Visit AH and sell your loot! Don't smelt the ore (unless you want to make steel) as this will cut out sales to JC's who will buy ore for prospecting.
