level 53 warrior here
Warrior was the first character i rolled. I picked Mining/BS so i could make my own gear and pwn everyone. Unfortunately, as a pvp lover i wanted to be able to actually beat other classes and clearly, as a leveling warrior with no paladin friends, it just wasnt gonna happen for me.
Stopped playing the warrior at level 45.
Rerolled priest, love it, 70 now.
Anyhoo, now im playing the warrior again and iv realised that i have been leveling a little faster than my mining has and now im questing around Un'goro, Blasted lands and Burning steppes with Thorium veins dotted about which i cant mine - i'm only skill level 225. Im pretty damn sure this is no fault of mine as i always go out of my way to gather, loot and level stuff.
My blacksmithing is hopelessly low too, despite the ABUNDANCE of time and materials i have spent trying to level it, im still making things for level 25-30, nowhere near making gear that i would use.
It was so easy on my priest, i was able to very cheaply level my tailoring proportionally to my own level.
The same will never be said for my blacksmithing UNLESS i put my priest weight and gold behind leveling it (and as for mining i just have to waste alot of time going back over zones to farm mithril)
I think there is a serious problem here, players who roll a BS/Miner on their 1st character are in for hellish time.

BS has always been on of the harder professions to level. You can either spend outrageous amounts of money on the AH and buy your way to 375 or spend a ton of time farming. If blacksmithing wasn't worth it though, noone would do it. Burning Crusade has made drastic improvements to BS as a whole and the weapons you can make are really really good (I hear the chest piece is pretty snazzy too). If you're not patient enough to level it, drop BS and pick up another gathering skill and just use your warrior as a gatherer, but honestly I bet most warriors would tell you that it was worth leveling. Heck I know lots of rogues and shamans that even pick up blacksmithing for the weapons alone.
Well, the situation sure isn't helped by levels going >30% faster these days since 2.3. I had the same problem with leatherworking on my Hunter; not the exact same, as your problem lies with mining, not skinning, but still.
If you want to do well with your professions, you have to take extra time to level them these days.

I had mining/BS on my warrior since level 5 or so and was able to keep it up with my level + or - about 5 levels. Even with this however, I only used about 10 items I ever made.. including the epic chestpiece I have now.
It's also worth saying that I spent a TON of money leveling it as I went. I spent all my money around 60 to get my blacksmithing back up to 300 as I had let it go a bit in the 50's. Once I got it back up, my epic mount fund was gone and I didn't get it till I hit 70.
Leveling Blacksmithing was, in my mind, more important than getting a fast mount at that time. Looking back at it, I should have just got the mount :)

I think that as a Gonna-Be pvp warrior, the rewards of Blacksmithing are going to be minimal, especially now that gladiator gear is avaliable for honor.
ill see what WotLK gives us though, might be worth sticking in for

If your are looking for mithril spots then try badlands. I made loops around there and you can usually find quite a few spots, and at the same time you can mine plenty of iron and use or sell on AH for extra gold.
