Red Blue and Yellow Socket for WarriorFollow

#1 Dec 19 2007 at 10:28 PM Rating: Decent
Ok ... now I have some gear with the socket slots ... what do I do next?

I take 2 of these and 2 of those ... have Joe Schmoe cut them to apple sauce? ... tand hen I click on them to get them on my leggings?

Can someone clarify? The lingo in these guides is really crazy, and this newb can't figure it out.

Thx

I'll try to do this as easily as I can. Say you have an item with 2 sockets, one red and one blue. This means that you can put two gems into it. They do not have to be the same colour as the socket, but if you want the socket bonus, you will have to match them. Socket bonus' are not required, but if they are good, you can try for them. To socket, just shift right click the item and drag the gem into the the socket you want it in. Just to be clear, the gem does not have to be the same colour as the socket to go in it, with the exception of meta gems, which only fit in meta gem slots and they are only on some head pieces. Gems are aquired by having a jewelcrafter cut them from a raw gem. A bright living ruby would have to be cut from a living ruby and so forth. So basically, choose what gems you want in your leggings, buy/aquire them and then shiftright click the leggings and socket them where you want them.

I hope that was clear.

I suggest starting with Azuarc's guide to jewelcrafting for non-jewelcrafters:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=925

Look at the guide to see which gems have stats that are both good for your class and would match the color of the sockets on your gear. Go to the AH, search on "Gems" by color and buy a couple that you can afford (on my server, "uncommon" cut gems sell for at most 1g50s each).

Right-click the item in your inventory that has the socket slots. This will open up a "socket window" for you to drag-and-drop the gems you just bought. Click 'okay' and the gems' bonuses will now apply to that gear. If the gems you put in match the color of the slots, you will also get an additional bonus, as promised up front.
