Skinning Help!!Follow

I am sure this has been asked before, however, I don't have time to search for it. I am a night-elf hunter (lv 13), my LW is 81 and my skinning is 102. I am supposed to make cured hide but I can't find light hide. I have been skinning in darkshore, bears and fledglings mostly but have not gotten any. Is there a level you have to be to get this or certain beast you have to skin. Thanks for your help inadvance...V/R Kayliana the newb.

I've gotten a few (only a few) from Bloodmyst around that same level with the bears... I think it just all depends on the area or luck. Not too sure though.

Hides are a rarer drop than leathers. You need to focus on the mobs that you are getting light leather off of and eventually you will get a few pieces of light hide. This is the same for all the hides, whatever leathers you are getting of the mobs = that kind of hide.

I've never played Alliance, so I dunno what to tell you about the stuff in those areas, but I CAN tell you that I frequently find Light Hides on the Zhevras of the Barrens, although due to level differences between you and some of the stuff in the northern and southern Barrens, you'd have to hunt fairly close by a small Horde establishment in the middle (the Crossroads), meaning you'd probably see at least a LITTLE harassment from the occasional Hordie who doesn't understand "live and let live" (although they shouldn't mess with you TOO much if you don't decide to be a jerk and bring a ton of 70s with you who want to destroy the town, and assuming it's a PvE server).

Edit: Added a minor detail I missed in the first draft...

That is what I have heard. Thanks to everyone who has replied thus far. If anyone else has more info that would be great. Looks like a night of skinning is in order.

As had already been stated, you will find hides where you find leather of the same type, just less frequently. If you want to try to specifically farm animals that have a higher chance of dropping light hides, use the handy search function in the lefthand menu bar. Typing in 'light hide' gives the following:
Light Hide
Most common dropping mob - Wolfguard Worg in SFK
Most common dropping mob not in an instance - Deviate Coiler Hatchling These are just outside the Wailing Cavern instance. Plus you'll get deviate scales from these.

According to the Allakhazam loot tables light hide drops from 451 different mobs (based on actual drops recorded by Wowreader.) So it is ubiquitous but rare. Just keep killing or hit the auction house. The average level it drops from, by the way, is 15.

The idea of going to the Barrens is not bad. But you will need to go through Ashenvale or get the boat to Theramore and run through Dustwallow Marsh. But at your level, you will agro everything within a mile until you get to the Barrens.

In that case, I don't have time to answer. Just see what everyone else has put.

Or even better.. get the boat to Ratchet and they'd be right there

I was thinking the same thing, but its about the same as going through any of the other zones. To get the boat to Ratchet, you have to go through Duskwood (20-30) and then STVietnam (30-45 and gankers galore). Anyway you go, its one big corpse run. Of course, going through STV, once you pass the arenas you could die on purpose, which will put you at the graveyard right next to the BB entrance...so that may not be that bad.

Yeah. If they stay on the road in STV, and if they're willing to sacrifice their pet, keep it on defense and when they're attacked, let the pet attack and keep running. Once you're safe, resummon.

Just a little thing I used to do when I was a much lower level than the area I was in when I used to have a hunter. It's not like it takes long to get loyalty back (at least didn't seem so to me)

Thanks for those who helped. For those who were negative... give people a chance (Most of us really don't need some negative smart a** comment). I skinned last night in Darkshore and got about 15 hides. I hunted bears, fledglings and moonstalkers (runts never dropped hides). All of those dropped hides at one point or another. So hopefully this helps if anyone has the same question I had. And again thank you all who helped me out.
