Deciding which way to go, shadowcloth, or spellcloth?Follow

I can't decide which way to go, now that my tailoring is (finally) high enough. I neglected my professions until I hit 70.

So, shadowcloth or spellcloth?
I honestly don't know if I plan on wearing it for myself, but I might. So which is more useful for both me and other people?
I always hear people ranting about the spellfire sets, but locks use a lot of shadow damage too..

If it helps any, I'd also like to be able to make some stuff for my mage boyfriend haha.

Go shadow and get the fsw stuff. It is better then t4 gear and it will last you a long time.

For a warlock, I agree that shadowcloth is the way to go. See the specialization discussion near the bottom of the tailoring web page on WoW Wiki for suggestions for other classes.

ok, thanks =]

oh, is this stuff better than s1 arena?

Edit: don't know if this helps, but my guild has a shadowcloth tailor already so maybe it'd be a good idea to do another type??

Well, I dont know much about warlocks, but I know there are the ones that use mostly shadow spells and then ones that use fire spells. I have the impression that for raiding and serious end game content shadow warlock is more appreciated.
So make your choice on what type of spells you use, fire or shadow.

I would recommend shadow as, keep in mind, you can make the Spellstrike set with no necessary specialization, you can be shadow tailor or mooncloth tailor or spellcloth tailor, the SpellStrike set only requires you to have 350 Tailoring. The set Bonus also requires only to be a tailor, no needed specialization.

Make all types of cloth you can, both your specialized type and the other 2, and then trade the ones you dont need for the one/ones you need, or sell them. Try to make the cloths when the cooldown allows you, you will always benefit from the cloths one way or another.

If your guild already has a shadow tailor, if he already made his shadow set and doesnt need his shadow cloth, by choosing yourself to be a shadow tailor you will get your set faster if he trades you his shadowcloth for spellcloth for example, or for other commodities/money.

I dont recommend choosing your professions and/or specializations depending on your guild, unless you have a good guild on which you know you can depend and you plan to remain in it a long time.

I agree that a little redundancy isn't a bad thing. I was guilded with a 375 Shadoweaver and since he was past the point of using his CD regularly, I'd provide mats and he'd donate his CD.

Spellfire is nice if you're a destro fire lock but you don't see a lot of those. The sets are also BoA and require the specialization to use so getting a certain spec just because you have another toon that could use it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's usually easily enough to either outright sell your cloth or trade even-up for other cloth types if you want to branch out and make the non-BoA stuff.

Hm ok thanks.
I'm still not sure which to pick now, but I guess I don't have to rush it.
I do plan on staying in this guild probably forever (its a decent sized guild, and we're all friends in rl or know each other through friends)
and he's made his frozen shadoweave set for himself already.
I'm guessing I'm going to end up going with the shadoweave though.

You pick your tailoring spec based on the gear you need. It has no bearing on your guild whatsoever other than being able to share cooldowns with other people.

In other words, take Shadowcloth spec and make your Frozen Shadoweave set. For PVE, yes it is better than season one gear. I don't know if it's the same for warlocks, but on my shadow priest the Frozen Shadoweave stuff is better than T4 and arguably T5 depending on other gear slots.
