40 porcupine pally thinking of going enchantingFollow

Tell me if this is a dumb idea or not.

Just hit lvl 40 with my prot pally and able to aoe grind very effectively now. Currently have mining and skinning for my main professions to make money. I'm now at the point where I can run through lower level instances solo to grab whatever loot I want. I was able to do Stockades last night in about 30 minutes taking my time, getting several nice greens to drop. Pretty sure I could do Deadmines pretty easily as well. It works out pretty well as I can go into "porcupine" mode and kill a whole lotta mobs at once.

Anyway, Skinning has been my main money maker as I can sit in the middle of a pack of critters and skin them quite quickly, whereas Mining has been going pretty slow. I've been thinking about dropping mining and taking Enchanting instead as I have a source of greens/blues that is easy for me to get, and our guild doesn't have an official enchanter.

For those of you who have had good luck with Enchanting, both for the ability and to make money, what level did you start at, and did it help to be able to run through instances like so?

Thanks :)

I started at Level 5, and didn't have to start leveling until TBC came out and changed the enchanting rules (Before TBC, you could disenchant anything at low levels). Afyetr TBC came out, I leveled a bit. You only have to be L35 and 300 enchanting skill to DE anything in the game.

In my opinion. going through instances for disenchantable loot is downright stupidity. You can farm the AH and get hundreds of items that you can DE for a good profit in the time it takes you to get a dozen in an instance.

The only use of lower level dungeons for DE loot I can see is the static BoP boss drops, nice blues in case you need shards.

At 40, you can make your home shat, and unless you are a Draenei, you can use the enchanting trainers in the scryer tower for enchanting up to level 300 (275 is good enough to de level 70 blues). That way you wont even have to run into Uldamin for training above 225.

As to whether it can make money? Absolutely.

You can level enchanting all the way to level 300 with a level 35 character. Anybody can buy cheap greens at the AH. So yes, it could work for you.

Also, any high level can train on the other gathering professions at any time. You can always take up any of the others again should you choose to.

You don't have to make Shatt your home port any more, Since Patch 2.3. All of the normal trainers in the Capitols can get you to 300.
