So I was pootling around the other day and I made quite a few of these charges and I started thinking about what the tooltip said:

Use: Blasts open all but the mightiest of doors and chests.

I've discovered they work on Khorium Lockboxes and the doors to Arcatraz, Shattered Halls and Shadowlabs. Also the door inside SH before the first boss, Grand Warlock Nethekurse.

So, is there anything these beauties can't open?

I'd be willing to bet a large sum of gold (I don't have) that they can't get you into the Black Temple.

Of course they can't. There is no entry door to the Black temple. It's just a portal in the wall that requires you to have the Medallion or Karabor and be in a raid group to enter.

Are they able to open locked chests in instances?

They can open anything a rogue with 350 lock picking skill can. So...your best bet would be to ask a rogue?
