I'm wondering atm how useful engineering is...since the other profs have useful things for other classes (i.e. my rogue LW can make armor kits for my hunter and meleers, my mage tailor can make spellthread for my casters, my paladin BS can make shield spikes for himself and my warrior - and put them on, and my JC can cut gems), so where is there any real benefit for an engineer besides just himself?

I know scopes...but I only have one toon that really needs a scope and I don't see the point in getting 360 engineering just to cheapen scopes.

You don't get into engineering to make money, or to craft things for other people. Well I take that back, field repair bots are really handy to have in raids. Aside from that, you go into engineering for yourself.

I made some gold with scopes, but at all, the engineering is not for making gold due to limited demand.
The Adamantite Scope has best profit factor, but the amount of earning is ridiculous. And on my server, it is hard to sell 3 pieces per week, because of competition and limited demand.

Well, there's another facet to engineering which appeals to certain people.

There is the EZ-Thro dynamite which anyone can use and which was at one time very popular in battlegrounds, and the jumper cables which were great for hunters and rogues who could usually survive a wipe when everyone else died. And my engineer has a slow but steady income from providing ammo. Except for that and the repair bot previously mentioned though, the whole point of engineering is to have fun yourself - blowing things up, teleporting, zapping things, running around with clockwork pets, and just generally being a real nuisance. If that isn't fun for you, it's probably best to find another profession.

Health and mana potion injectors no longer require engineering skill to use. That opens up a serious market with raiders.
