Should I drop skinning or leatherworking for enchanting?Follow

So after I level LW to 375 to get my epic gear set, should I drop LW and get enchanting? The reason why I ask this is becuase when the next expansion comes out, I'm sure LW will go up even further (and skinning) and have even better gear. But I love that with enchanting you can enchant your own rings and stuff and don't have to depend on other people to do it for you. But is that really a viable reason to do it? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you drop LW after you get your epic set crafted, you may no longer be able to wear the gear. I would check closely and see if there are any requirements on the gear to have a specific LW skill.

Skinning on the other hand is something you could drop, with no impact to your gear. I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my Druid especially since the expansion is likely a year out from now. Even if you drop skinning, you could always buy mats from others to make whatever gear comes out in the future. You'll just drop some coin that would otherwise be free.

I'd also drop skinning.

However as a sidenote, OP you mentioned making rings - that's Jewelcrafting, not Enchanting. Regardless - keep your LW and drop the Skinning. Since you've got a 70 you can always farm the gold to buy mats for LW when the next EP comes out.

He didn't say make rings, he said enchant rings. Enchanters can enchant their own rings. There are four BoP enchants for rings: +2 Weapon Damage, +4 All Stats, +20 Healing, and +12 Spell Damage.

I would agree with others, if you're going to drop one profession, I'd say drop skinning. If you choose to pick it up again, it's not too tough to re-level it. LW on the other hand would be a huge chore to re-level.

I would not necessarily recommend enchanting as a replacement for skinning. Enchanting can be costly to level if you don't do it right. There are ways to level it without a big cost, but it can be a money pit. Also, the only thing you'll gain that someone else can't enchant for you are those ring enchants. If you want enchanting for disenchanting to make money with, that's one thing. But, if you just want it to enchant your own gear, I would think hard about picking it up.

I am currently thinking about dropping skinning for mining (to make money), or herbalism (to supply my raiding needs - guildies can make pots for me).

Anyway, I'd say in general a gathering profession is better to drop than a crafting profession.

Yeah thats true. However if I do drop skinning I can always just pick up skinning on my alt. I was a 300 skinner at level 45 it was VERY easy to level up with. I just skinned EVERYTHING in site, even dead mobs that other people killed. Currently she has mining, maybe I'll make her a skinner as well and pick up enchanting on my rogue. I've also decided not to drop LW at all since I've put a lot into it. And not to mention the Drums of war...etc...can be pretty useful in groups/raids. Thanks for the input guys!

NO TO ENCHANTING!!!

It is such a giant pain in the *** to level, and very expensive. You will hardly ever be able to sell and enchant and when you try to people will ask why its so expensive and not buy it. You are much better off relying on someone in the guild who has already taken the time and spent the money to level to 375. If I had it to do all over again I never would ahve taken enchanting, it is not a rewarding carreer.
