So I know both from experience and a little research that low lvl income from fishing comes from both selling stranglekelp as well as oily blackmouth, the fire fish that I can't seem to remember as well as stonescale eels. Since my fishing toon is 60 and 300 fishing, is there a better place to fish for some money? I do realize that fishing isn't going to bring in a ton of money, but a little trickle is always nice
The second part of my post is fishing in outland. I've read on various posts that you have to be 300+ to be able to even cast in anywhere in outland. Now I've not done the fishing tournament in stranglethorn vale so my pole is just the basic pole that you can pick up from any vendor, and I usually use the nightcrawlers for a +50 fishing increase. My question is am I going to be able to fish in places like Zangamarsh with just a mediocre fishing pole and a few +fishing skill baubles?

A 40-minute run in Tanaris just fishing the pools, usually nets me about 80 gold. I start north of Steamwheedle and go all the way to the southernmost part of Southbreak Beach and then back again.

First of all, get to the trainer in Zangramarsh (At the Cenarian Post, next to the water), and get your cap up to 375. Then get yourself to Shattrath City and do Quest: Rather Be Fishin'. The reward is a +20 pole, and is fairly easy to get. Use Bright baubles or Aquadynamic Fish Attractors instead of nightcrawlers.
Follow-ups for Ohmike's good advice.
First, I wouldn't recommend trying to fish in Outland with a low- to mid-300 fishing skill. You'll lose a lot of fish and it will get annoying quickly. Minimum skill needed is 305 in the east part of Zangarmarsh and it goes up to 355 in west Zangarmarsh. But in my experience, I lost a lot of fish before I skilled up. Even with max fishing and a lot of +fishing gear (skill is 412 without lure, if I recall correctly), I still need to use lures (+100) in west Zangarmarsh to avoid missing fish. Required skill only goes up from there in other parts of Outland.
Second, I recommend skilling up from 300-375 in the Old World. Get the book in Zangarmarsh, then jet back to Azeroth and skill up to 375. Doing this avoids the misses and speeds up the skill-ups. It'll take about 11-12 fish per point for the last points, so you want every fish caught. I went to Feralas, where there is a good mix of ecomonic fish, including stonescale eels, but most anywhere (except maybe Azshara) would work.
Finally, I highly recommend El's Extreme Anglin' website. It is a trove of fishing knowledge.

I just got my fishing up to 300 last night and went to east Zangarmarsh, I used the +75 Bright baubles and my +20 pole and had not trouble with misses the only time I would miss a fish was when my Bright baubles ran out and I did not reapply.
Plus in 30 min. or so I was up to 308 fishing, so you can skill up in Zangarmarsh just fine.

Start looking at some of the cooking recipes. As you max out your fishing, you can make foods that provide buffs, like [wowitem=27666]golden fishsticks[/wowitem] or [wowitem=27667]spicy crawdads[/wowitem]. They sell for a lot.

I would recommend schools from east Zangarmarsh lake to skill up fishing, just if you are competent cook also. You have to use good pole and at least +75 baubles though. You will not only skill up fishing, but also earn some gold, as you will be able to make Blackened Sporefish - raid food.
The nodes of pure water in Nagrand are awesome for farming primal water. They are also right next to the bluefish and mudfish schools, and assuming you cook, they can bring in money as well. Stack of bluefish usually sells for 20 gold on my server.
Many of the foods you can cook from outland will bring a gold each, though not all of them. For example, I can sell ravager dogs and warp burgers for five gold per stack of five. But I have a very hard time selling roasted clefthoof even for one gold per five.
Fish are the same way. Some sell very well and others are good for little more than pet food. The two best sellers I’ve found have been spicy crawdad and golden fishsticks, both of which I can sell for seven gold per stack of five. You have to have a flying mount to fish in the crawdad pools, but you can fish for golden darter, which you cook up for golden fishsticks, on ground level in Terokkar Forest.
Once you reach Outland I would recommend, as mentioned above, buying the next fishing book and getting the +20 fishing pole quest reward. Then buy some +75 lures and start fishing. Even if you just fish by the guy who sells both the fishing book and lures, one of the lowest level fishing areas, you can cook up those fish and sell them to the vendor for silver instead of copper. It’s not a lot of money, but it helps pay for the lures. Also make your way to Allerian Stronghold in Terokkar Forest if you are alliance or the horde equivalent town. The waters just outside the walls of Allerian Stronghold are home to golden darter. It’s not the common fish, but once you can fish there without too many fish getting away you can start making a nice bit of coins by selling golden fishsticks on the auction house.

All good advice so far. It may seem to be conflicting, but its really not. I believe (according to what I read some time ago on the website azwing linked [El's Extreme Anglin' website] ), that if you are 70 points above the minimum you will not get misses unless you are really slow on the draw. Zangar is 305 by the Cenarion Expedition, so if you equip your pole with a bright bauble lure you will have 375 and will get no misses. You can get these lures and the Fishing Book to raise your fishing cap from Juno Dufrain in Cenarion Expedition. He's right by the lake.
Go to the west in Zangar and you will start getting misses for sure, as I learned the hard way. Its not 305 throughout the entire zone (as azwing noted). Please, before making posts like this, check and see what faction the original poster is, or at least advise that the quest you posted is Horde only. What good would this advice be to an Alliance player who cannot do the quest?
That said, here are the Zangarmarsh levels:
East (The Lagoon, Umbrafen Lake) : 305 to fish, 400 to avoid missed fish.
West (Serpent Lake, Marshlight Lake, Sporewind Lake): 355 to fish, 450 to avoid missed fish.
So for Eastern Zangar, at 300 base fishing, you'd need a Aquadynamic Fish Attractor to stop fish from getting away, or you could use +75 lures (Bright Baubles I think) and the +20 Shattrath quested fishing pole and do a good job of it. For Western Zangar, it's best to get a bit higher than 300 before attempting.
For myself, I have the fishing boots (+5) from the fishing contest, the +25 fishing pole from the Horde quest in The Hinterlands, +2 fishing enchant on gloves, and Aquadynamic Fish Attractors (+100). I'm at 288 fishing. So with all my +stuff on, I'm at 420 fishing. I can do Eastern Zangarmarsh easily, but Western is an exercise in frustration.

Yes, it is. One simply has to swim around underwater and open up cages and be able to fight off the lobster mobs in their low 30s that will attack you. The BIFP has the same +20 fishing bonus as the fishing pole from the quest in Shat. But the one from the quest gives you a butt load of stamina, which is not a bad thing should you get attacked while fishing.
The BIFP only requires a level of 25 and 100 fishing skill to use. So it’s a great pole to use until you can get your hands on the one from Shat. Those on the horde side have to give up five points of fishing bonus if they want the Shat pole with the stamina on it, as the fishing pole from their low level 50 quest has +25 fishing on it.
And the quested one is BOP, the Big Iron is BOE.

Actually, the Big Iron Fishing Pole is white. It doesn’t bind at all. When one of my characters outgrows his I pass it onto one of my alts.
