Enchanting or JewelcraftingFollow

Would it be viable to have both Alchemy and Jewelcrafting as professions?

I have Alchemy maxed at 375 and I can buy mats for potions I suppose. I looked at a Jewelcrafting powerleveling guide and the mats didn't seem too expensive to get to 300. My goal is to get gem recipes so I can just harvest every gem I need. I suppose mining would help a lot with getting the gems but I hope there's a way to work around that.

Any input on this decision? or tips perhaps?

P.S. I am mostly a very active PvPer with some PvE interests. My spec is all out for PvP though so I will probably not be doing any big time raiding. I'm sure that will have some effect on this decision.

Or would Enchanting be a more viable option than Jewelcrafting because I will be changing gear a bit?

Not only is leveling JC 1-300 not that hard, its actually not that bad 1-375... However that does not include ANY rare patterns. As a JC with nearly everything in the game (still need more Hyjal rep) I can tell you I've spent THOUSANDS of gold (as in well over 5k) in rare gem cuts. Now that I have them, making money is easy. However unless you're willing to shell out big gold to get everything, I wouldn't bother if you're doing it for moneymaking. There is barely anything worthwhile that is JC only. If you like prospecting, there are lots of JCers that prospect free (for a tip, or to keep the dust). The BoP gems are very nice but you can only have one of each kind, which doesn't affect your overall gear.

On the flip side, I know lots of people that have taken up enchanting just for the ring enchants, if nothing else.

Making money isn't really my goal. I don't really need money because I have my Epic Flying Mount already. I mostly just want a profession that is useful and I suppose make some money if I NEED it.
That being said it seems Enchanting would fit this more than Jewelcrafting. However, Jewelcrafting does have some nice BoP gems.

Which is more useful to the crafter? (For fun, let's take money out of consideration. If you had to choose either one, which and why?)

The BoP gems are not worth doing JC for, neither are the trinkets unfortunately. However I didn't do Jewelcrafting for any of those reasons, I became a jewelcrafter to be the main jewelcrafter for my guild, cutting everything they might ever need, and to that end I have been a huge success.

If I wanted to worry only about personal gains, I would easily go enchanting. The ring enchants are good enough to where I know a lot of people drop a gathering profession just to get that.

Alright thanks for the info on everything. I've decided to go Enchanting and Alchemy. It's nice to be able to transmute and enchant.

Schism eh? Hopefully I'll see you on Frostmane sometime and pwn ur face :0 (all in good fun)
