tailoring vs. JC vs. mining for 50 lockFollow

I started out my human warlock as a tailor and enchanter. I was happy with that for a while, but I started to realize that I may only want to level one character all the way. I'm now at 50 and finding that I could gather herbs as I go through the leveling and get higher level herbs easily. Especially with my trusty Felguard, I can rip through places like Swamp of Sorrows easily.

So my question, Dear Abby, is maybe I don't need tailoring? I've gone to 300 and outfitted myself nicely. I'm also getting interested in jewelcrafting (JC). So at level 50 and climbing, is there anything special about higher levels for JC or maybe I should go for mining instead? Can I have a lower level alt (say level 30) do the actual JC and I just send him ore? At level 50, I'm seeing all this ore around? Is there a minimum level for alts?

To summarize, should I:

1. Drop tailoring?

2. Pick up mining?

3. Or jewelcrafting?

Maybe because I now have my level 50 pet, I'm finding it easier to level and am already up to 52. But I'm also getting interested in jewelcrafting (and am in real life also).

As a lock i wouldnt drop tailoring. i had to power lvl my tailoring at 70 for my Frozen Shadoweave set and it cost me a fortune =(. i also had enchanting until 2 weeks ago but dropped it in favor of herbalism cos it brings in more of the sweet cash! just my 2 cents.

Jewelcrafting, like enchanting, requires you to be a certain skill level to prospect. To get adamantite you need pretty high JC, but I don't remember the exact number. I want to say over 300, but I dunno.

Tailoring is extremely good for warlocks. Frozen shadowweave is quite probably better than tier 4. Its also useful beyond tier 4 because you get random other epic patterns that really make good additions to your gear.

Oh and the only thing you get from being a JC is income (which doesn't do much after you have your epic mount and the AH gear is inferior) and a few BoP gems. The gems are nice, but you can only get one of each so unless you're doing JC for another reason (say, to be the guild JC) I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the advice. I think that I'll stick with tailoring for now and see how it goes when I'm 70. Money isn't a problem now anyway, it was more a fascination with Jewels in RL. I think I'll slowly level another character who has JC and mining already, and let my lock be the pathfinder. (Once you do a region, it's easier to have an alt do it.)

Again, thanks!

funny, but enchanting (with my L42 hunter) netted me enough gold to finance two epic fliers and many normal epic mounts (given to guildies). Dropping enchanting (the best moneymaker, IMHO) for Herbalism? Bad choice.

Did you make all that money by hawking your enchanting to other players? Or by disenchanting and selling the results on the AH?

I probably was confusing in my post. I dropped enchanting on my warlock but my druid banksitter picked it up and is doing just fine. Your wealthy enchanter was only 42, so obviously you don't need to get to 70.

Here's my mix:

warlock(52) : tailor and herbalist
druid(31): enchanter, alchemist, and bank-sitter
paladin(19): jewelcrafting and mining

I'm not sure I'll do much with the paladin until my warlock hits 70/80 and my druid hits 35 (needed for alchemy).
