Playing again after 1yr hiatus.Follow

Hi all,

I just started playing WoW again after a one year hiatus. I broke my tibia/fibula while mountain biking a couple of weeks ago. That means no biking, no snowboarding, no frickin' sports. Anyways, I just logged online and it seems that there are a few changes. I'm a 41 Night Elf rogue with maxed out first aid, leatherworking (225?), skinning, and fishing (big-iron fishing rod). Are these particular tradeskills any good at making money? Back then I used to sell my stacks of leather and hides for money.

That would still be viable. However, if you're not going to craft the 375 sets for Leatherworking, I might suggest dropping it for Mining.

Skinning is profitable just as you said.

First Aid isn't profitable, but it's very useful.

FIshing is rather profitable.

Leatherworking is only profitable at 375 with loads of Primal Nethers.

Yep, if money making is your goal, drop leatherworking and pick up another gathering profession. Either mining, herbalism, or disenchanting.

At level 41, I doubt that you are maxed out at 375. Where would you get the Netherweave? In any case, I doubt that you can make a lot of gold - you might be able to sell some Heavy Netherweave Bandages to raiders who can't take the time to farm the cloth themselves, though.

leatherworking (225?)

Dude, you seriously need to visit an artisan leatherworker and get your max to 300. After you get to Outland, go to Honor Hold for the Grand Master trainer. Like all crafting skills, leatherworking is for BoP stuff to make for yourself, not necessarily to sell. In order to make money from Leatherworking, you will need to find a niche market and hope that no one else is there.

skinning

Skinning is a profession that will always net you money. Not a whole lot per stack, but it's always easy to produce lots of stacks. At L41, you should be in an area that produces heavy, thick, and some rugged leather. All of them sell well, at least on my server.

fishing (big-iron fishing rod)

You've finally hit upon the one that will get you the gold. While not quite as good as the outland fish, you can still make gold from the Azeroth money fish - Stonescale Eels, Deviate Fish, Oily Blackmouth, and Firefin Snapper. Additionally, there are pools of debris. Fish pools only - it's usually not worth it for for anything other than pools - you will end up wasting bag space on trash fish.

Okay, interesting thread, which brings me to a few questions:

- If I discontinue paying the monthly fee, I can start up again and not lose character info?

- Oily Blackmouth don't sell for **** on my server. Why is this? Where can I find deviate fish? I just hit 200 last night at level 44.

Blizzard don't delete old accounts, they just leave them on ice until you decide to come back. When you reactivate your account, all your characters will still be there waiting for you.

I don't know, server economies are strange beasts. As for the Deviate fish, you can find them in the Forgotten Pools in the Barrens.

*Edit: Fixed mistake with the name of the fishing spot.

Actually, Deviate Fish can be found at any of the three Oases in the Barrens (The forgotten Pools, Lushwater Oasis, and The Stagnant Oasis). On my server, they go for about 8G/stack (10G/stack when cooked into Savory Deviate Delight). Your mileage may vary. They will often be found in fishing pools, but they are still fairly common, even if there are no pools.
