im really stuck here... and i know there was a very recent post about this already but i dont feel its righ to go to his thread and ask his question for myself.
i did about a 1/2 hour of research on both, and my guild boss-lady (blckravneyez) says i should go gnomish because she is and says gnomish makes alot more cool things... but i really like goblins and one of my catch phrases is "I'VE GOT A PRESENT FOR YOU!!!!" *throw dynamite or bomb at the person*
which would be a load of fun with rockets and sheepies and "the bigger-one"
but i also think that "mind control ray" and "shrink ray" would pwn, and the backfires are hillarious
im taking engineering because im a chanter *aldor heh =)*
and engineering is a cool counter to it.
plz if someone could help me choose before i make the mistake of having to go power level engineering and spend 100g doind it AGAIN.

Check the FAQ...it has a nice comparison between the two.
Goblin engineers get more bombs, Gnomish engineers get more toys.
That's basically what it boils down to at the end of the day. Besides, most of the stuff engineers make can only be used by other engineers, so it doesn't really make much of a difference to anyone else which one you choose.

you could always buy "the Bigger Ones' from a goblin eng and use it as a gnomish i think, if memory serves, the only requirment on The Bigger one is eng skill.

Thanks for the links to the pets. One of my hunter alts is an engineer, but is not to the level where I need to decide this yet. I just wanted to note, the link for each says:

So it really is important to "choose wisely," since you can switch specialties but can never get the pet for the second specialty. I'm assuming not able to obtain means not able to pick up since both are BoP. I agree that for some this may be a deal breaker!
And another note - the reference to the FAQ; two posts that each summarize the differences between these two specialties (I also agree that MetalM is generally correct) are quoted in the FAQ, and the OP should not miss reviewing those posts.

One of the more desirable goblin(ish) engineering items are the extra large jumper cables. Any class that can break out of combat when a wipe is eminent, like a hunter or rogue, will want to have those in order to jump start that poor dead priest's heart after everybody else has died. Those XL cables are only manufactured by goblin engineers. However they can be carried by any engineer, including the gnomish ones. So if you have a goblin engineer buddy that'll make you the cables for cheap or you're rolling in cash, don't let this be the deciding factor for which branch you choose.

go for goblin since it makes consumables. Buy the gnomes since their stuff sticks around after usage
Do what I did. I leveled 1-300 and went Gnomish. I made all my trinkets and then dropped Engineering. I then re-leveled it, this time going goblin so I can make all my consumables. This was Pre-BC so I am missing out on all the gnome 300-375 but it's still pretty cool to have everything.
