Otherwise, people will just craft what they want from each speciality and move to the next.

gee, and lvl'ing up to be able to make a weapon or piece of armor, getting all the mats to make it? that is NOT good enough to use it? i honestly refuse to craft anything anymore, crafting is simply a time and gold sink. You spend thousands of gold to get to 375 then cant make anything unless you run many many heroic instances to get one item out of a huge list of mats to make one item, yes that item is sweet, but after running that many heroics... wouldnt you have at least one awsome epic? yep, im dropping them all and just double gathering. Not a newb here either, been here since beta, just real slow in thinking mabe blizz would make it worth crafting, after all these years i just give up...

If you did tailoring you would think about this differently. The Frozen Shadoweave/Spellfire sets are better than T4, mix this with Spellstrike/Battlecast sets and you will have great gear until you get into SSC/TK and start replacing it.

Funny...most people I talk to say the BoP epics with crafting requirements to equip are the only things that really make their craft worthwhile to skill up. Engineers, Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers in particular. I know a lot of Alchemists make their gold from the sale of high-end consumables (esp. when they get specialty procs that produce more than the common result), but for the other production professions, they're quite happy with the things they are able to produce for themselves.

I'm leveling Leatherworking/Skinning on my new Tauren rawrkitty as I work my way up the ranks and I'm pretty much breaking even at this point. I recognize that the final push will get costly, but considering most people pair a gathering profession to the production profession of their choosing, you can be a bonehead and buy your mats out of impatience or you can go out and gather the mats you need while your gold reserves remain steady. Primal Nether as easy as sin to come by by the time you really start needing them. If you don't want to wait until they're a fairly common commodity, you fall into the same category as folks who want to be hand-held through the attunement process for Kara so they can start raiding in their Nagrand quested greens/blues.

It seems to me that Bliz have a lot of love for tailors all round. If you look at the rep reward for alll the TBC factions, how many are tailoring recipes? Now compare these with the number of rep rewards that are BS recipes. If a tailor is a skinner, they are never short of mats to make trash items for leveling, but try farming mithril to become an armoursmith.....

I enjoy being a BS, but until i reached outlands, I only made one item that I actually used (earthforged leggings) and most items went either straight to vendors or sold for a pittance on the AH. BS's can make very few desirable items, Phantom Blade, TS breastplate, Green Iron Hauberk...maybe a couple of others. OK, two items...I used the Green Iron Hauberk for a while too

I don't know why I'm still armorsmithing as a pally. Hoping that something good will come out after spending countless hours grinding for thorium. I don't think I've used any of the items I crafted for myself. I've had guildies request certain items for their low-lvl alts, but nothing appealling on my 70 pally.
