To answer your initial question, just go to the tribal leatherworking trainer and choose the option "I wish to unlearn tribal leatherworking". This will get rid of your specialization.

To answer if Dragonscale would be better, we would need to know what class you are.

Elemental = Rogues and Feral Druids (stam and agi, ap and crit)
Tribal = Caster Druids
Dragonscale = Hunters and Shaman (can wear mail at 40)

Hope this helps.

Your LWing spec only matters for the 375 BoP epics. Nearly every other LWing item can be made by all leatherworkers, regardless of spec.

There are a few exceptions, but those pieces are generally pretty poor compared to some of the PvE gear that you can get at a similar level.

will "unlearning" Tribal set me back to 1/375 LW? or just to whatever number you specialize at (225 or so? can't remember) do you lose whatever Tribal patterns you've learned?

Resetting will only change the spec patterns available to you. It will not change your skill level in any way shape or form.

Might as well add how to get the new leather working once you decide if you are going to switch.

You need to get to Tanaris and Steamwheedle point. You need to find this person.

You are not actually going to talk to him, but read the book that is on a table next to him, and through the book you will be able to choose a new spec. You then need to find that specialty lw and train the recipes.

Hope this helps.

I am just about to learn Dragonscale LW as I am a hunter. Would not tribal be better due to all that agi? Or would Dragonscale be better as it is mail?

I am at 59 and DLW at 310, the dragonset (Green and Black) has excellent stats for hunters, the blue set is better for casters, shaman mostly. I need more of the black patterns to finish my black set, which is barely good enough in outlands. I think those pieces start at lvl 50.

Is this applicable for all professions? I'm thinking it'll be easier to lvl as armorsmith and change to weaponsmith later.

you could make the argument that Elemental is better for Survival hunters because you get more Agi then you would with Dragonscale.
