I'm starting up an alt mage. I'm a little wary of playing the character due to usually preferring healing classes, but thought it might be worth a try (I find various aspects of the frost mage to be interesting) if I have her take up jewelcrafting and using the stone statues as extra 'healing' in addition to bandages and potions. It's also nice to have the trinkets...and jewelery. :) But anyways, anyone have any thoughts why I shouldn't take jc for my mage? (I'm also thinking of starting up an alt priest with tailoring).

If you can fund your alts from your main character, crafting professions are fine. Otherwise, they are money pits.

There are no versions of those healing stones past the dense ones, meaning there isn't one in outlands. The trinkets are OK, but its really not hard to find stuff that is better, and its an expensive waste of money. The new BoP gems are nice, but they pale in comparison to the stuff like enchanting can offer. Otherwise everything else you can possibly get from JC is easily made by another person. Honestly I wouldn't recommend getting into JC if you're just doing it for the BoP items. This is coming from someone who has every craftable, every rare gem, even most of the Hyjal gem cuts.
