Is tailoring worth it?Follow

#1 Oct 10 2007 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
Hey
I was wondering if tailoring was a profession worth choosing. I mean, the tiers are usually the best for each class, so what's the point of choosing tailoring or LW? This might sound like a noob question, and in many ways it is, but please don't flame me.
Thanks;)

If you are a caster and planning on hitting 70...then the answer is Hells yes!

Take a look at the Epics you can make based on your specs! They are insane. Not to forget about the dropped patterns!

But think about this. Tiers use most of the slots in the equipping zone... Tier 6 uses only five, is it worth levling a profession unit 375 just to use 3 slots? I know what epics you're refering to, and I like them.

Saying that the T5 or T6 is better then the stuff you can make is good an all.. but how do you expect to get them? Even if you look at going stright for the D3 set (then MAYBE you could get into a Kara raid) it's till alot of work you'll need to do.. not to mention the luck you'll need for the drops.

Once you hit 70 that doesn't mean you can just run and pick up your T6. If your fire getting the spellfire and spellstrike sets is better then the T4 imo.. and you can get those all on your own with some farming/grinding.

Point being if your not a tailor your going to have a hard time getting gear just so you can raid. I spent the time and G to drop herbs and pick up tailoring when I hit 70 just to get the sets.. they are epic in every way.

DarkHybridX is right. If you're going to look from point you describe then you are right. BUT, it is long way until you'll be able to collect ALL T-parts you want. Lots of raiding through instances (especially Heroic and Kara) and you can't do that without proper gear. If you wear cloth, then Tailoring is definitely main chose. You can discuss second profession, but no tailoring.

I find it interesting that so many people just assume that everyone will get their tier gear. I’ve been playing since day one and I’ve never had any tier items on any of my characters. There are a lot of people out there who will never see any of it or will only see some of the lower tier items. For such casters tailoring is incredibly useful.

Thank you, god bless my blacksmithing!

I agree.
Unless you are going to go Hardcore raiding the reality is you probably are not going to have a complete set of Tier gear.

Even if you do plan to go hardcore, you have to be geared to raid the areas that drop the tier items.

I really recommend going through with the Tailoring, the gear is on-par with most T5 (and really until you get the 2-piece set bonus is it worth it to potentially drop a piece). The gear will pretty much be expected of you as you start raiding to make sure that your DPS is where it should be, it will also allow other caster classes that don't benefit as much from the tailored epics to get their gear that will benefit them more. The mage T4 is fairly weak, I only really where it when I am grinding elementals so I don't lose cast time.

My tailoring netted:

[wowitem=21873]Primal Mooncloth Belt[/wowitem]
[wowitem=21875]Primal Mooncloth Robe[/wowitem]
[wowitem=21874]Primal Mooncloth Shoulders[/wowitem]
[wowitem=24264]Whitemend Hood[/wowitem]
[wowitem=24261]Whitemend Pants[/wowitem]

and I make [wowitem=21841]Netherweave Bags[/wowitem] as giveaways for my guildies.

I like it.
