Dropping My Crafting Professions, But When?Follow

#1 Oct 09 2007 at 6:24 AM Rating: Decent
In order to prep for my arrival to 70 (I'm currently 65 1/2, I plan on dinging 66) I was wondering if it'd be smarter to drop my crafting professions asap and level them up to my level, or if it'd be smarter to wait until I was 70.

I'm planning on leveling up mining/skinning (skinning will be super easy to level up), so any advice on when to drop my crafting professions would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Since you are already 65 i suggest to stick with the profs you have, levelling gathering profs mean you are gonna spend some time in the noob area.

I think you want to focus on lvlling and thus keep running around in outland, right?

Although you could take (dis) enchanting...

Out of curiosity, why?

Lvl 70 is where crafting professions finally pay off, in the form of craftable BoP epic items (assuming you chose a profession that benefits your class).

There are a lot of sources for generating money at lvl 70. If you do all 10 of your daily quests, that's 120g per day in a fairly short amount of time. Not to mention all the leftover quests at 70 that give cash rather than exp.

My advice would have been just the opposite. Do gathering professions at lower levels, then power level a crafting profession around the time you hit Outlands.

My advice would be dependent on what level your crafting professions are at and what your goals are, which is difficult to give based on the little information you've provided.

Were I in your position, I'd be thinking about the following:

What epic gear can be made from the crafting professions and how much use they'd be to you.
Why you want so much money (epic flyer, at a rough guess) and what you'll do after you've got it.

I was in your position a few weeks ago, albeit already at level 70. I dropped Jewelcrafting (level 350+) and took up skinning, to generate the cash for the epic flyer. Biggest mistake I ever made - I've now got the mount and the training but skinning really isn't worth it and now I'm thinking of getting a crafting profession again.

Well, I've got Tailoring and Enchanting.

Disenchanting does make good money, so perhaps I'll just stick with Enchanting and tailoring. Besides at level 70, it'd be nice to get my Spellfire set.

Thanks for the advice, I realize the information I gave was very little, but thanks for working with it. I think that I can start to sell some tailoring stuff anyways, and it won't necessarily be a money sink if I use enchanting/tailoring in a smart, unique way.

No. This is a common misconception but for someone who's new to level 70, they cannot do 10 daily quests a day.

First off, you need a flying mount and the training to use it. That's only Skyuard and Ogri'La. For Netherwing, you need the epic flying skill as well. So unless you have upwards of 6000g in your pocket, you won't be able to do 10 daily quests each day.

More likely, if you've got enough to stump up for a basic griffon, is three per day and that's assuming you've got a friendly guild to help you through the Ogri'La pre-requisite quest chain. That's a grand total of 33g, but still not to be sniffed at.

When you get more rep with Ogri'La you'll eventually get to do six per day, for 69g.

Then there's a daily rep quest with Honor Hold / Thrallmar, but the gold from that is miniscule.

There is an excellent guide to the daily quests on this very site - http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=1020 . I suggest you read it, or maybe actually do daily quests before spouting trash about doing 10 a day to a new or prospective 70'er.

The number of daily quests does go up to 10 once you have them in sketis, ogrilla, and netherwing ledge (requires epic riding skill).

Dailies are just one more factor of the many possible ways to spend your time making money.

I agree with your keeping disenchanting and tailoring. You can always do some other gathering professions on your alts.
