OMG the Startup Cost of EnchantingFollow

I just dropped herbalism for enchanting on my lvl 28 warlock. I thought hey, since I have tailoring, why dont I enchant the stuff I make. Wow I had no idea, well I had an IDEA, but geez. All donations from charitable persons on Nordarassil are neing accepted(just kidding).

Level your enchanthing by disenchanting some cheap tailoring items that you can make or buy on the AH. Then sell those mats and buy ones that you can use to encahnt, sell the excess that you don't level off of. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah..the thing is I gotta get to 25 enchanting before I can disenchant.

Beyond that though i have made a terrible mistake. It seems that the runed copper rod is not exactly a reagent. I bought like 15 of them. Guess I only needed one. Oi vei.

Bzzt! wrong! There are plenty of things you can DE at zero skill, and just by disenchanting, you can raise your skill level in enchanting to 60 (but that's the cap - after that, you have to enchant something to level your skill).

Wow, if that's the most expensive mistake you make in this game, count yourself lucky (but that's another thread).

enchanting is not hard to get up at all. just buy a buncha strange dust or D/E greens you. strange dust will bring your skill up to 85ish in no time at all, IMO it is by far the fastest leveling trade skill in the game. I dont know the cost of strange dust on your server but its about 10s a peice on mine so its not very pricy at all.

It's 1/2 the price if you just buy cheap greens and DE them. It's stupid to purchase mats when you can make them and make a profit selling what you don't use to people like Kronikthedemonik.

Yeah ummm...So what happened was the only green I had in my possesion required a 25 skill level to DE. I guess I was just tired and in a small panic when I started the thread. That and the runed copper rod faux pas. I actually logged out, got on my priest sent a bunch of copper to my warrior, who went on a futile search for a set of copper rod plans. No such luck, so I finally found them at a vendor and bought up a whole truckload, made runed copper rods, and set out to do my thing.

Well imagine my surprise when after doing like 10 enchants, I still had all my runed copper rods. The realization of my error started to creep up the back of my head. "Oh no", I said. "What have I done", I cried, "I have made a terrible, terrible mistake. Have I done damage to my finances, from which I will never recover?".

Well maybe I didn't react quite that badly...

Nothing more to see here, move along, go back inside, everything is under control.

Honestly, if you haven't sunk too much time/money into it... I would advise you to drop it and re level either herb or mine (depending on server economy). Level up to 70 on said character and then drop it and power level enchanting. You can fly through everything up until the low 300s in a weekend no problem if you farm low level instances.

If you do have a main (I was assuming that the 28 lock was your highest character on the server - not the best assumption), than use him to run through instances starting low and building up. Again, it's easy to do in this manner. Leveling up enchanting while you are working on your first character on the server can be pretty rough on your wallet. I always have found that having a gathering skill comes in handy while leveling.

Well not exactly my first character, I have several. Not my highest either, but is starting to become more of a "main". I also have a priest at the same level that qets about equal playtime, so I kinda got a "dual main" thing going on.

Beyond that I have numerous "alts" sending mats and the like. Believe it or not I actually dropped herbalism for enchanting. It was making a little bit of money, but nothing to write home about. I do better just playing the AH. I have found a nice market for a particular item that many many people underprice. Risky? You bet. But so far it's working.

Like I said earlier, I had a couple of misteps and was confused as to how to get started late one sleepy night when I decided to undergo this drastic change in direction(going from a sure money maker, to one with little returns out of the gate).

One more thing, If y'all know of a good way, or place, to obtain new formulas it would be a great help.

What utter nonsense. My latest enchanter is my only toon on that particular server. I started disenchanting with an initial amount of 50 Silver, and within a week and a half had 500 GOLD (and 225 skill). Rough on the wallet? Maybe on people who think like LorfMeridus and think that buying mats is preferable to making them.

OMG you mean free!? no... you actually MAKE MONEY from startup enchanting.

I started seriously leveling enchanting once I had 3g on a my character on a new server (around level 20)... had 20g in no time.
